Problem waking Ubuntu 20.04.3 from sleep
aq flag

I have a Dell Inspiron 5415 with dual boot Windows 10 + Ubuntu 20.04.3. The processor is Ryzen 5 5500U. I can't wake my laptop after putting it into sleep. It works fine on Windows though. While sleeping, I can change the backlight key brightness and also, if I press some random combination of keys, it wakes up from sleep. Anyone has a solution for this?

Ubuntu command works on command line but not keyboard shortcuts command
ng flag

Recently installed Lubuntu and customising 'meta-shift-s' as shortcut for screen snip windows style. I'm using ImageMagick to snip image, saving to folder, and CopyQ to copy image from folder.

I've tried the command in command line, and it works well, but when placed in keyboard shortcuts in global action ...

GCC compiling problem
es flag

I just downloaded the GCC compile for C/C++. After compiling with the command gcc main.c -c -lGL -lGLU -lglut I get a permission error which can be fixed by changing the permissions. I then get this error: bash: ./main.o: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error. Will you help me fix this? Also if it helps I'm using C.

-Thank you in advance

Lintian package-installs-apt-preferences
us flag

According to https://lintian.debian.org/tags/package-installs-apt-preferences, a DEB package should never deliver anything to /etc/apt/preferences.d/ nor update /etc/apt/preferences.

My package really needs to pin a related but different package to prevent upgrades. Given the above, what is the recommended means of doing so?

How can I repair boot process (so that it uses my SSD)?
vn flag

I use Lubuntu 20.04, which boots from an SSD.

Today I allowed the system to do upgrades, and subsequently got an error message saying that update-initramfs failed. I googled the error message and found this link which suggested the problem could be resolved by freeing some space on /boot and reinstalling a package. I think I made a mistake trying to do both fixes in one procedure.

In previous versions of Ubuntu I was able to install the proprietary nvidia driver for the GeForce 210 graphics card under Additional Drivers in Software & Update but now there are "No additional drivers available".

I tried typing apt install nvidia-driver- and hit tab. If I'm not mistaken, I need nvidia-driver-340 but there is nothing below nvidia-driver-390.

To be completely clear when I boot Ubuntu i choose the option "Try Ubuntu" and not "Install Ubuntu" since do not want to partition the mail hard disk.

Change Japanese(Anthy) Font in Gnome3
in flag

I'm trying to find a way to change the font used in Gnome3 when using the Japanese(Anthy) input method. I added Japanese(Anthy) as an Input Source under Settings -> Keyboard.

enter image description here

I ran ibus-setup and selected a custom font, but when I switch to Japanese (Anthy) it still used the default font.

  • ibus version 1.5.25
  • gnome 40.4.0

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
