I don't know how to use two Ethernet connection simultaneously on single PC. I was searching about this problem at least 4 hours, but I have no clue how to do it.

I am using Ubuntu 21.04 on this PC, this PC is connected to 2 other PCs. The first PC is used to receive files from this PC and the second one I use for remote desktop (second PC is in another room). Both PCs are connected via Ethernet  ...

My new Dell w/ Ubuntu Gnome won't show my external monitors (Sceptre)
br flag

My ubuntu Dell will not show my external monitors. I've downloaded and installed the driver for the StarTech Display link docking station I have, and the dock works for keyboard and mouse, but I cannot get Ubuntu to recognize the external monitors.

Nothing is there when I go to Settings and click on Display. I'm wondering if my Sceptre monitors don't work with Linux. I hope not. I cannot afford n ...

Shortcuts for switching monitors

I'm on a NUC PC (Ubuntu 20.04) with two monitors (one Thunderbolt 3, one HDMI device). Only one of them is usually active at the same time but both always stay connected. Windows 10 allows me to switch between the primary and secondary monitor using WINDOWSKEY + P, it also deactivates the device that is currently not in use. MacbookAir (21.04): resume from suspend very slow after recent update
nz flag

Suspend and resume has been working on my MacbookAir for over 6 years now, and it continued to work normally upon update to 21.04. Some ensuing update created an issue where the resume (when pressing the power button) takes about ~30 seconds to kick in; the machine is literally unresponsive for ~30 second until it wakes completely normally.

Ubuntu won't boot up when on battery, only when plugged in
ug flag

My Ubuntu screen does not open in battery mode; it just loads a black screen.

It works if a power cable is plugged in.

My laptop is ASUS TUF Gaming fx505 dd with dual-boot, UEFI-enabled.

The NVIDIA driver is properly installed and working so I don't believe it's a driver issue.

Output of nvidia-smi:

The nVidia Dialog shows:

I installed ProtonVPN from the proton site. I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the remaining pieces of the software. I've done the usual things:

  3. apt remove protonvpn (can't find)
  4. unhid files and searched in Files and deleted all the protonvpn remnants I could find.

Emojis appear distorted on Ubuntu 20.04.3

I have a strange problem with emojis appearing distorted (stretched/enlarged on the X axis) in some applications. The problem does not happen in all applications, and in some applications, like web browser, emojis appear fine in the page content, but are shown distorted if they are part of the web page title.

Perhaps the most prominent example is in LibreOffice Writer:

Starting with this answer I'm trying to use a USB wifi adapter because I can't get the onboard wifi to detect my (known good working) wifi. Isolating variables, maybe the onboard wifi doesn't work. This device is way past its warranty. I've always used wired connections with it.

Lost sound to monitor 20.04

For some reason I no longer have any sound to my monitor plugged in by the 3.5mm Jack from the Speaker output. Plugging my monitor into phone sound comes through the monitors speakers so that rules out the monitor and the cable being the issue, the only noise I hear is a pop sound from the monitor.

Couldn't Display [program] -- No application installed for "shared library" files

I think the problem is -- to Ubuntu, it doesn't seem that some of the files are executable at all or rather it doesn't know its file to type. The Files Manager due to which instead of showing the original icon (let's say the Arduino icon in this case) always tends to show some sort of unexecutable icon (as is visible in the attached image) for almost every (downloaded) file/program.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
