can I safely delete thunderbird from 20.04.3 LTS
in flag

I don't use Thunderbird and never will. All of my email clients are web-based. So I would like to uninstall the Thunderbird client from my laptop, but don't want to break Ubuntu. Is it safe to do this? If not I can live with the bloatware.

Ubuntu 20.04 upgrades - DNS name resolution fails on internal network

My company distributes software to clients on Ubuntu VMs. Recently we've been updating all client VMs from Ubuntu 16/18 to Ubuntu 20.04.

We've been having an issue where DNS name resolution isn't working on the internal network. It's working outside of the network (we're able to ping external websites), but we're not able to connect to machines on the internal network by DNS name - only by IP add ...

How to explore using newer version of package (mosquitto) on LTS
cn flag

I'm building up a test server using 20.04.3 LTS. Since the version of the mosquitto broker on this release is 1.6.9-1, I'd like to explore how much ground shaking I'd have to do to use a newer version of the mosquitto package. I note that both hirsute and impish include 2.0+ versions of mosquitto, so ideally, if there was a single line apt(-get) incantation I could just tell it to try and install  ...

What is “Secure Boot chain-loading bootloader (Microsoft-signed binary)" and why is Ubuntu 20.04 trying to install it on my system?
ht flag

It seems to be part of the shim-signed package. (Credit: @neikas) That package description says: "Its purpose is to allow a small, infrequently-changing binary to be signed by the UEFI CA, while allowing an OS distributor to revision their main bootloader independently of the CA." But why am I getting this, given that I am running Ubuntu -- not Microsoft?

How to launch application on startup

I'm pretty new to Ubuntu and recently ran into an interesting issue. I installed Keep Presence (https://github.com/carrot69/keep-presence) to prevent my Intel Compute Stick from idling. What I would like to do is have this launch when Ubuntu starts. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
