Print hashes when a file or a folder is drag'n'droped to terminal
tv flag

I need a way to quickly see hashes of singular files and of all files in a given folder. Drag'n'drop should work great, but in lxqt you can't drag'n'drop to scripts or even desktop entries.

I have a script that opens the terminal and receives one file at a time and prints its hash. I need it to be able to recognize a folder too and to hash all files in it. The problem is I don't know bash.

Ideas on how to configure DNS properly for Ubuntu 20.04
in flag

Since a wifi outage a day or so ago I have had no access to the internet on my ubuntu running computer. I can ping 8.8.8.8, so I believe the problem is DNS related. However, manually setting the DNS in the network manager does nothing. I have also tried systemctl enable resolved, but am told that I don't have a resolved.service file at all.

Any ideas that people have on how to fix this issue wou ...

Kubuntu 21.04

Asserting that correlation != causation right up front, but it does seem suspicious.

I installed PCManFM 1.3.2 and it's everything I want in a file manager I use for FTP, namely: it downloads files to consistent folders that match the online structure, and doesn't prompt me to first upload and then overwrite remote files when I make changes -- it just DOES IT.

However, after I installed i ...

Nautilus copy and paste (clipboard) causes pasted target application to freeze
ar flag

Whenever I copy content with the Ubuntu file explorer Nautilus, like a filename string, and try to paste the filename into other applications, like chrome, it will cause the target application to freeze until I copy something somewhere else.

I'm running wayland on Ubuntu 20.04, and this only happens in Nautilus.

Is there any way to fix this?

I've just upgraded Xubuntu 16.04 to 20.04. With 16.04, files were displayed with different colors of lines in Thunar (see the following screenshot, obtained from here):

Why is my empty folder has a 134 GB size?
fr flag

I moved files from my old server to a new one. I don't know why but when I want to zip my folder it always hangs on a folder.

At first, I thought it had failed, so I canceled by pressing ctrl+c, but I tried multiple times and always have same result.

My zip command is:

zip -r backup.zip /var/www -x '*.log*'

I tried so many zip commands with or without params/arg but still hangs on /admin/storage ...

My Dell XPS 13, running Kubuntu, doesn’t detect the power supply anymore when plugged in (I’m using a USB-C charger, which lights up the same way it always does, so I believe the problem isn’t with the charger). Rebooting didn’t help.

I only noticed the problem when the battery was already down to 9%. Currently the laptop is turned off, and I don’t have a lot of time left to try differe ...

Assembling Raid Arrays On New Kubuntu Install with mdadm
by flag

I have just re-installed Kubuntu on my machine recently, and have also installed mdadm to reassemble three raid arrays that I had previously. I didn't carry over any configuration files for these arrays, but installing mdadm automatically generated a conf file with what seems to be the correct information for the arrays.

Would I just need to run mdadm --assemble --scan as root to reassemble the arrays?  ...

Buzzing/waves like sound when recording with bluetooth headphones
in flag

I have tried many solutions on the internet but nothing seems to work, My bluetooth headphone and speaker have a problem in which when I record or say something in a online video call it sounds like buzzing sound and not recording any of my voice. I have also tried the line-in connection for the speaker but it also shows the same problem. This only happens with the mic, I can hear them clearly.

What is this error "brz: ERROR: TypeError: a bytes-like object is required, not 'str'"?

I am following this tutorial: https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/packaging-new-software.html to create an ubuntu package. When it comes to bzr dh-make hello 2.10 hello-2.10.tar.gz I translate it to my own program (pushpop), so here is the command line and the result:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
