Accidentally moved a single folder from root, now can't boot anymore
cn flag

What happened:

I used a program with a really bad GUI file picker and as I tried to traverse the file system, I accidentally hit the "back" button on the side of the mouse which seemingly acted like a regular left mouse click that caused me to move a folder high up in the file system into another folder. I either moved a folder from root into anoter subfolder of root (e.g. moved /A into /B) or a folder  ...

Can I install a driver into a copy of Ubuntu from the computer flashing it?
cn flag

I would like to flash Ubuntu Mate to an SD card to be used in a Raspberry Pi. (I don't know why, but a company spokesperson told me my LCD display's driver works on Ubuntu Mate but not Ubuntu Server.)

The driver is simply required to be cloned from a GitHub repository, and a simple install script in that directory to be run, in order to be installed.

Is it possible for me to run this installation pr ...

What is the logic behind the boot process
in flag

I’m trying to understand the logic so I can replace Mac partition with Ubuntu.

The way I understand it is the MBR is read first, and started. Then the signature of the GPT table is tested and if present it is used to boot the computer.

Is GRUB replaces the MBR so the computer boots in Linux?

So what happening with dual-boot? Is GRUB put back the old MBR and GPT so Windows can boot?

How can I move the Gnome Terminal message "the child process exited ..."?
cn flag

I just installed an IDE extension that runs the current program in a terminal, and I have Gnome Terminal set to stay open when the command exits, but when that happens, the first two lines are covered up by the message "The child process exited normally with status 0". How could I move it?

I believe this is possible by editing a Gnome stylesheet, but I'm not sure where to start.

Swapping standard Ubuntu for win-10 w/ "WSL Ubuntu"

For 5 years I booted to Ubuntu Distros with a GUI desktop, however; this year, my professor has forced me to add Windows to my machine. In the past I would dual boot the two, however, as I am sure most of you are likely to already know, several Linux distros have been made available for use by developers working in "Windows 10" environments", therefore, ...

After installing WPS-Office the mime type for DOCX files is set to application/wps-office.docx (for instance the mime type reported by this command gio info document.docx is standard::content-type: application/wps-office.docx).

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
