Sometimes my laptop detects that the power cable is disconnected even though it's not. After some time it shuts down as if there is no charge even though it's plugged in; I always leave my laptop connected to wall power as the battery only lasts for 10 mins.

I was wondering if can I remove the battery management or power management package/software that deals with battery stats, health, ... to ma ...

Strange login screen freeze after trying to make changes to xkb
cn flag

I've been using my chromebook with Ubuntu 21.04 for a few days with no incident. Now, it freezes when I attempt to log in. The only probable cause I can identify is what I was doing immediately before, which was a (probably misguided attempt) to follow the instructions in this readme to get a proper Chromebook keyboard layout. Given that the latest commit is 4 years old, I should have expected it ...

xdg-screensaver reset doesn't unblank screen?
in flag

I wrote this simple bash script:

#!/bin/bash
xdg-screensaver lock
sleep 5
xdg-screensaver reset

I wanted it to lock my PC, wait five seconds, then reset the screensaver to prevent the screen from blanking out.

Although the screen locks, it remains blanked out. Why?

Streaming paused while in console
ec flag

I am running Ubuntu Mate 18.04, recently updated. When I have Spotify playing in my browser (happens either with Firefox or Google Chrome), and I switch to tty1 to work, the music plays 10 or 20 seconds then stops. It automatically starts again when I come back to tty7. It appears the OS decides it doesn't need to run anything graphical while in another tty. The problem also happens with YouTube.

Sam

I am building a lucky draw system, names hard coded, to make sure that nothing had been modified since release (and convince my customers/end users), I want to install a ubuntu (desktop? Desktop cli is enough.) on a DVD and make it bootable.
I mean, like tails, a live CD. You put in the DVD, boot from DVD and you are there, everything needed is installed.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
