How to make path specification of partition on 2nd internal ssd *short* -- easy to type?
lr flag

I used the Disks utility to format my 2nd internal ssd. I added a whole-device partition without a name, and added a filesystem (ext4) name. Everything's working ok: it mounts at startup; the filesystem shows on the desktop (although I don't require that; I mostly use terminal). I already copied 400G of files to it, which took hours, so I'd prefer not to reformat it.

For my work I need Edge browser. However, in the Microsoft web site they provide it as an .rpm file. To install in Ubuntu it needs to be converted to a .deb file.

I tried to convert it, but failed. Can anyone convert it and provide it?

Error while running apache2ctl graceful
cn flag

When I run this command: sudo certbot --apache -d example2.com -d www.example2.com

I get the following error:

Error while running apache2ctl graceful.
httpd not running, trying to start
Action 'graceful' failed.

After having search and tested several solutions I could not found anything.

My guess is that the problem comes from certbot not understanding the config files of Apache2, because in my case it's ...

Shouldn't apt-get modify $PATH?
cn flag

I just installed libmariadb-java (JDBC connector). From what I understand, now I am supposed to manually add the jar from /usr/share/java to the $PATH variable - so it's added to CLASSPATH when running any Java program (I know I can probably attached the jar to each program individually, but let's say I want it to by there by default).

This isn't really convenient, it took me some time to realize.

openssl-1.1.1f-ubuntu2.8, what does 2.8 stand for regarding ubuntu?
hu flag

I have seen that openssl < 1.1.1l has a vulnerability so I wanted to upgrade it by running

sudo apt-get install openssl # upgrade didn't worked

And I get the following

openssl is already the newest version (1.1.1f-1ubuntu2.8).

1.1.1f is the openssl library version. What does the 2.8 stand for?

It doesn't match my ubuntu version (20.04LTS) nor my kernel version (checked with uname -a)

Create network alias in Ubuntu 20.04
jp flag

I have a local application that will try to connect to MySQL on 172.1.0.1 when it's on production but I want to be able to test it locally.

At this time, changing the source code is not an option, so all I need really is for 172.1.0.1 to map to be routed to localhost (127.0.0.1). Something that will persist through reboots but it's easy to revert.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
