Initial WiFi Setup Issue in U20.04 Server
cn flag

I just installed Ubuntu Server 20.04 on an old HP PC (AMD Phenom II quad-core with 8GB RAM and large hdd). After realizing I needed wired internet to configure WLAN, I dutifully broke out the obligatory, decade-old, unused ethernet cable and got to work.

I did some research here and elsewhere, and made adjustments to netplan using my .yaml. 500 indentation issues later, I finally got sudo netplan ...

WiFi doesn't connect automatically after disconnect - Ubuntu 18.04
na flag

Several times a day, my wireless network disconnects (for some reason), and I see this notification:

enter image description here

At this point I'm not really asking about why it disconnected (though I believe it is nearby interference).

My question is why it is asking for the wireless password when Ubuntu already has it. The network is set to automatically connect, so I would think it unnecessary.

The "Explore" tab loads properly for both. "Installed" is just empty. "Updates" says "Software is up to date"

I'm behind a proxy server at work running Ubuntu 20.04 on a Dell desktop.

Of note, when I open the "Software & Updates" app then click on the "Livepatch" tab, it tells me "Livepatch requires an internet connection."

1080p video can't play in VLC
cn flag

I was first a Windows user, but recently switched to Ubuntu.

I want to play 1080p .mkv videos on VLC but it won't play properly. In Windows it works but not in Ubuntu.

VLC was my default player, but now I like Ubuntu video player a lot. My screen resolution is 1366×768.

How do I get 1080p video to play on on VLC?

GNOME minimizing/restoring all windows of a specific application
in flag

In GNOME desktop, how can I minimize/restore all windows of a specific application?

I know the shortcut Super + d hides all normal windows and then restores them, but I'm looking for its equivalent that works only for windows of a given application (for example, the application running in the current window).

Grub not recognizing Windows after fresh Ubuntu install on new drive
pe flag

I know this is a very common question but none of the answers I read worked for me so far. I have two M.2 NVMe SSD. I have installed Windows 10 in one, and wanted to install Ubuntu 20.04 on the other one. I figured the safer way for me to do it was to unplug the Windows drive and do a fresh install. Then, plug it in and run sudo update-grub for it to recognize the Windows install in the other drive.

Disk Storage - I believe my HDD still has Windows' remnants (I want them out)

So, I have been messing with a spare HDD I have lately. I realized that, for some reason, I have a /dev/sda1/ .fat32 partition, which is flagged as boot, on my HDD. I previously worked with Windows. I thought I had removed everything as I started my enterprise on changing distros. I searched quite a lot, and perhaps I have used the wrong keywords, or searched for the wrong questions, to no avail. I hope ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
