I'm pretty new to Ubuntu and having issues with Samba shares. I have Ubuntu 20.04 installed on the server and win10 on my desktop. None of the shared folders I create (smb.conf or Nautilus) show up. The weird part is that there are some folders showing up that is accessible from the server and win10 (hassio folders). I'm assuming samba is working just that I have missed some configuration or something i ...

Is a static IP address set in GUI reflected in a config file?
mm flag

I set a static IP address for my Ubuntu 18.04 machine using GUI and looked in several likely config files (referred to in Web tutorials) to see how the setting was reflected there and saw that it simply was not.

One example of such tutorials would be this.

Before I went looking further (on a potentially fruitless search), I wanted to ask:

When I set a static IP address using GUI, is that reflected in a co ...

My laptop prints weird key combination while in the terminal or while startup in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
br flag

My laptop has freshly installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS along side with Windows 10. This problem started happening when I upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 (I guess). But, then I formatted my ubuntu partition back to 18.04.

But, when I open terminal, I see the following key combination being typed automatically for infinite times:

Change default terminal with right-click option "Open in Terminal" in file manager

I have installed Konsole on Ubuntu 20.04.2 and I want to set it as the default terminal emulator for which I have run sudo update-alternatives --config x-terminal-emulator.

When I go to the file manager and right-click in a folder and select "Open in Terminal" it runs the Gnome terminal emulator instead. How can I have Ubuntu select Konsole for this action?

Why do 32-bit Steam games on my system use the integrated GPU instead of my dedicated Nvidia card?
mx flag

Native Linux games from Steam work great, except for 32-bit games like Hotline Miami and Team Fortress 2. 64-bit games use my NVIDIA 1060 Max-Q but the 32-bit games use the integrated Intel chip and as a consequence lag a lot. I know that they aren't using the 1060 because the applications do not show up in nvidia-smi or nvtop.

I've tried a ton of things, but I can't get them to run on my dedicated G ...

Ubuntu Gnome 21.04 Software Update breaks Thunderbird window management

A clean install of 21.04 (erase disc) & then running software update causes some terrible window management problems.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
