Ubuntu 20.04 boots slowly after regular update; boot and efi partition appear on toolbar and Nautilus left menu; files load slowly into editor

xyz

Apparently after todays system update, Ubuntu 20.04 boots slowly.

Other effects are that boot and efi partitions appear on system toolbar and Nautilus left menu.

Also files load slowly into editor.

Dual boot Windows partitions do not show in Nautilus under "Other Locations" any more. However, they can be booted explicitly, e.g. using "disk" tool.

I created a simple script that does a curl command ( I run it every month via crontab ) and I made it echo to a logfile with the date of run. The problem is that I want to receive the shell script output as well to the log file and I'm sure quite sure how to achieve that. This is what I have:

My Ubuntu System Does not start the Desktop

A few days ago my storage got completely filled and I accidentally shut the computer. now I cannot get past the black screen and all I'm left with is a virtual terminal. I tried resizing the partition but at the last second, it gave an error. I'm using ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Why would this happen and what should I do now as re-installing is out of the question for me as I have a lot of important data. ...

Swap out one distro in a dual boot setting for another, without affecting the second OS?

I have Lubuntu installed, alongside windows being dual booted. I was trying it out as my main distro and it sucks. I'd like to keep the windows install, but replace the Lubuntu install with Xubuntu.

Someone suggested that I manually partition it, but I don't know how to do this. They also suggested that arch might be easier since everything is manual, even installing the bootloader. I'd need help  ...

What is Unknown Process Called "hp-upgrade"
vn flag

I use a home-brew desktop PC that runs Xubuntu 18.04 (fully updated). Attached to it is an ancient HP Office Jet G85 printer. In my last 2-3 sessions there has been a process called hp-upgrade that takes 88% of memory (according to top) and seems to begin at start up. It keeps on running for hours until killed. Anyone have an idea or experience with this? Thanks, Howard

Now, when I click network tray icon, "Wired Connection 1" has been replaced by "Auto Ethernet" as you can see here.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
