I run Ubuntu 22.10 as a VM in VirtualBox (VB) hosted by Windows 10, and since I was running out of storage I decided to extend it.

  • I increased the size of the virtual disk using The Virtual Media Manager in VB from about 30Gb to 46Gb
  • Started Ubuntu in trial mode using the Ubuntu ISO installation file.

External SSD not mountable after connecting to windows

I think I messed up really really bad and need help.

I had a laptop with an Ubuntu installation. My laptop's main board broke. I took out the M2 ssd where linux was installed and gave laptop for repair.

I put the ssd into an adapter and connected it via USB to the only available PC which was a windows 10 and tried to get the files out. I saw my files and thought ok it works.

How to clean up duplicate entries in GRUB?

I want to clean up the entries in GRUB on Ubuntu 22.04 since there are a lot of duplicates:

Everything seems to be listed twice.

I already ran apt-get autoremove --purge, but there was nothing to remove. Here's the output of update-grub2:

How can I omit permanenty logged snap livepatch messages?

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 with Ubuntu Pro.

Running the following command:

canonical-livepatch disable

results in the error:

error executing disable: livepatchd error: daemon shutting down

I permanently get the following messages in syslog with different numbers before scope:

do-release-upgrade broke python's virtual environment and pip

I did a release upgrade, followed by apt upgrade no problem, everything went smooth. Except, now virtual environments don't work at all. I have various one set up for various django projects I'm working on. When I try to run django manage.py runserver I get:

I just upgraded from 22.04 to 23.04. On 22.04 I could click on a window title and it would raise it and give focus. I'm not getting that on 23.04. I need to actually select with button 1 and move the window a bit to get raise and focus.

Am I missing some setting?

Three finger gestures only working in touchscreen

I tried just a regular bridge, but the same issue no router setting access "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" and no samba share from my server. LibreOffice shows window title bar in slide-show mode on Ubuntu 23.04

On Ubuntu 23.04 (but not on Ubuntu 22.10) LibreOffice Impress does not properly enter slide-show mode, which should be entirely full screen.

Instead, Impress shows a window title bar that reads "Presenting: " and the name of the file.

How do I configure Ubuntu so that Impress will present properly in full-screen without this title bar?

Internet connection keeps dropping after update

After a manual update on my system a couple of days ago I'm loosing my internet connection every few minutes. I've got dual boot and Windows does not seem affected, so I'm pretty sure the hardware is all fine. Unable to display systray icon's menu for a Wine application

In previous versions of Ubuntu we did not have this problem. Now, after the update from Ubuntu 22.10 to 23.04 (GNOME / Xorg), a Wine application that is minimized to system tray does have its icon displayed in systray; however, I am no longer able to interact with this icon either by right or left clicking. I am using the HPLIP installed from repository, since the one from HPLIP download usually does not install, due to dependencies issues.
