Connecting Ubuntu Machine to New Display Does Not Recognise Display
br flag

I have a machine running Ubuntu 20.04 which was connected to a 4K display (Samsung), and is now connected to a different 4K display (Dell). Since rebooting the machine, just before it gets to the login screen, the display goes blank and the display notifies me

No HDMI 1 Cable. The display will go into standby mode

Why would a different display cause this and how do I fix it?

Headless Browser: Audio Output to Pulseaudio
cg flag

I'm trying to run a headless browser on an EC2/Ubuntu 20.04 instance and then output the resulting audio stream to the default Pulseaudio sink (which is then picked up by DarkIce/Icecast). I'm only wanting to run a single webpage (mine, hosted on a different server, requiring jQuery & Howler.js), and the resulting browser/stream has to remain open 24/7.

I've managed to get an audio file on th ...

Hotspot on 20.04.2 and network settings in general seem to be extremely bugged
us flag

As the title says, hotspot on 20.04.2 and network settings in general seem to be extremely bugged. Not sure what's going on but it's annoying and I unfortunately am not good enough with ubuntu to do this without a GUI.

My aim is to take the ethernet signal that my server is putting out and turn it into a hotspot for my devices, as my 3d printer, printer and TV are in another room.

ssh - private key file requires \n at the end of file or cause "Load key id_rsa invalid format"

Question

Has OpenSSH introduced a change that requires \n at the end of the private key file (id_rsa)? Previously I was on Ubuntu 18.04 and I believe id_rsa without \n at the end of the file was working. Now on Ubuntu 20.04, ssh does not work if id_rsa does not have \n at the end of the file.

My Splash Screen in Ubuntu isn't centered since I updated to 21.04
cn flag

Today I decided to update from Ubuntu 20.10 to Ubuntu 21.04, and the first thing I noticed while shutting down was that my splash screen was shifted to the right-bottom, as you can see in the picture below. I already looked at the /usr/share/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu-logo.script file, and it looks alright. The section where it calculates the position of the Picture also looks fine to me.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
