Second monitor doesn't show image after waking up - Ubuntu 20.10

For the last few months I've been dealing with issues when connecting a monitor/TV to my laptop. When it first boots it works fine, the issue comes when I suspend the laptop and I try to use the second monitor. The OS detects it, but it shows nothing but a black screen, so I have to reboot so that the monitor can show any image. If I open a window it will open on the second screen and can drag it to the ...

Nautilus crashes when trying to open another window by right-clicking the Nautilus icon on the dock and then selecting "Documents" (Ubuntu 21.04)
ca flag

When I right-click the Nautilus icon on my dock while at least one Nautilus window is already open, I can select "Documents" in the appearing menu. This should open another Nautilus window showing my ~/Documents folder, but instead, it causes all existing Nautilus windows to close. The same happens when I select "Downloads", "Music", "Pictures", or "Videos", but "New Window" works normally.

How can I install drivers for my USB wifi adapter if I have no internet?
ch flag

On Ubuntu, no wifi adapters are found. The reason I'm making this post and not just following the 2 million other threads with the same problem is because everyone on them has a built in wifi adapter. On my device, I have some random USB adapter that isn't showing up in Linux. I'm not sure if that changes anything, but I want to check. My main issue is that I can't get the drivers for it without the int ...

My setup: Server with Ubuntu 20.04 with samba shares. HP Deskjet 8620 Pro printer.

The printer provides a feature called "Scan to network folder". It used to work with Ubuntu 16.04, but it does not since the update. Googling i found that this printer is using a very old protocol version of smb.

I found this post which suggests setting

Same user/password no longer allows access to Ubuntu share from Windows 10

For years now I've had a stable setup serving files from an Ubuntu box to Windows 10 clients. By creating and using a Windows 10 user with the same username and password as the Linux file owner, I was able to share with no trouble, and had owner privs when using the share from the Windows side.

Ubuntu 20.04.2 and Onboard Intel I219-V

I recently purchased an ASROCK Z590M board with an Intel I219-V onboard network controller. However, the latest Focal 20.04.2 won't detect the onboard NIC. This is a known issue with Linux, as ASROCK doesn't have the drivers. Intel doesn't show any drivers on their site either.

Some people have disabled the onboard adapter and added an extra NIC, but, because of my application, that would create  ...

How could I check total free storage capacity left on my system among multiple hdd's?
cn flag

I have 15 SATA hard drives attached to my computer and having to go through them one by one, writing down the free space and then summing everything up is not ideal.

Is there a command or a combination of commands that could do that? Ideally where I could pass something like /dev/sd* since I do not want to include the nvme drives.

Remove black edges / borders (underscan) from monitor and fix bluriness on Ubuntu 20.04

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
