How do I find relative files in python with ubuntu?
gh flag

Basically, I am trying to set the background of ubuntu to a file, and I pretty much need to use relative paths.

I have looked at other people's and tried what they did but it didn't work, it just changes the background to a dark blue colour.

My code: os.system('gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri file:../Installer/Assets/BG.png')

Also, I am using Ubuntu 21.10 and yes, I have added ...

Deleting files under /etc/sudoer.d
kz flag

I granted another user account sudo privileges for running Docker commands by adding a file with their username directly under /etc/sudoers.d:

username ALL=(root) NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/docker

I now want to revoke these privileges, I assume it is perfectly safe to just delete the file? So just:

sudo rm /etc/sudoers.d/username

I have assumed many things in the past that have turned out to be incorrect... The  ...

Audio activation causes webcam to freeze
cn flag

I have purchased a new webcam and I have a problem. When I test audio or video, it all works. However, when I test the video with sound, the web browser (firefox) freezes. Chromium freezes, but the video turns black after a few seconds.

I see an error in the dmesq report: usb 1-1.3: 3:1: cannot get freq at ep 0x84

I ran the usual commands and here are the results:

sudo dmesg | grep uvcvideo

How does dpkg choose to replace or not replace a configuration file?
ph flag

I created a package to install postfix with my own setup files. For example, I want to have my own /etc/postfix/virtual in that package.

That works great and I verified, the file is listed as a configuration file (it is part of the conffiles list). I can update it in my package and the postinst script will run the postmap command to make sure the .db is up to date.

However, while doing some testing, I ch ...

Is it OK to add space to a logical volume while it is being used heavily?
mx flag

The existing logical volume on my server is being used extensively (TBs of data being copied to the logical volume) therefore the logical volume is filling up. Soon it will be full, so I want to add new space to it.

Is it OK to do it while the copying in progress?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
