How do I fix the black screen after waking (from Suspend) issue with Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite E45DW-C?
il flag

As it says in the subject line. The version of Ubuntu is 20.04 with the latest LTS update. In other words, stock drivers for the AMD FX-8800P with Integrated Graphics (Radeon R7).

It will not wake up after suspend. Always end up with a hard restart to get out of it.

Ideapad 330 (81FDS00100) keyboard not working
rs flag

I got a brand new keyboard installed on my laptop mentioned in the title, but it isn't working properly, as the keys Enter and Backspace are not working. Is there any way to update drivers or reset configuration to get it working again without having to change the keyboard? I just paid a lot to get it changed. Thanks in advance.

SHIFT not working properly in some shortcut combinations
gp flag

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04.

SHIFT button is not working properly when used in some shortcut combinations like:

SHIFT + PRINT: Does the same as PRINT, it screenshots the whole screen rather than a defined area of the screen (PRINT is: FN + INSERT).

CTRL + SHIFT + T: opens a new tab on browsers just like CTRL + T, rather than restoring a closed tab.

I tried to reconfigure the keyboard, edit shortcuts in settings  ...

Ubuntu 20.04 apt installed kaffeine won't record and snap kaffeine never runs
cw flag

I have had kaffeine running really reliably for many years, but recently upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04, and kaffeine was still running. I realised the other day that I cannot record any TV programmes now - which seems a recent issue - maybe around the time I got my bluray drive to work as a bluray drive! I can watch TV, just not record anything - yet I rarely watch live TV, so this is an issue! I also tried  ...

I need to automate the task of formatting and mounting an SSD when Ubuntu 20.04 LTS starts up

I am using a local SSD in Google Cloud Platform, and the characteristic of the local SSD provided by Google is that the user has to re-format and mount it every time the user restarts the OS : https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/disks/add-local-ssd#formatmultiple

I wanted to automate this because it's annoying having to do this manually every time the system restarts. So I created a script in /e ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
