ar flag

Somehow while moving files around, I grabbed and dragged a .config folder with lots of clues to where it goes, but I don't know and I am worried if I don't get it back, I will have real problems if this computer shuts down and I am sorting tons of unbacked-up files rn, as well as other things. Please, where does this go? Ubuntu 21.1 cinnamon with some other real problems. Honestly, I want to fix this, b ...

Lets start by saying i'm made a rather good F up here and tried to install plesk on top of cpanel. I'm not sure why but its done and have a working version of cpanel but with a messed up install in the background. Since this is production i'll rather not wipe it till i've explored my options.

When ever trying to install or remove anything i'm getting this;

Ubuntu 20.04 hangs frequently
cn flag

Just installed Ubuntu 20.04 on a new computer (Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB, RTX 3050 Ti) alongside Windows 10 and it's hanging very frequently after startup - this started from the very beginning. It's usually only a few minutes and doesn't correlate with anything in particular as far as I can tell. After it hangs, very few things work, although SysRq codes appear to still work. It's definitely not a memory iss ...

Trying to patch Linux kernel to enable 15khz video output but the patch process seems to hang endlessly
gb flag

I put together a computer with the intention of emulating games to a CRT TV by following online guides such as this one. I'm still relatively new to Linux so I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn and get my hands dirty without the fear of messing up my main computer.

Anyway, part of the process of getting Linux to work with a CRT TV involves patching the Linux kernel to enable 15khz video  ...

C++ fmt library not working

Hi guys I'm a C++ beginner and I just found that the fmt lib is really interesting. But I ran into a problem when trying to use it. I used homebrew to install fmt lib brew install fmt .I check the fmt installation using apt-file search /usr/include/fmt/format. and it then returned libfmt-dev: /usr/include/fmt/format.h .I tried to build a sample project to test it as follows:

Help with Gnome Encfs Manager data recovery

I think I've made a big mess trying to encrypt a folder in Ubuntu 20.04

I've installed Gnome Encfs Manager, I created a new mounted folder through encfs manager and I've cut and pasted the files from the "original" folder to the encrypt folder created by encfs.

The problem is that when I've unmounted the folder, I just couldn't mount the folder again, I've tried to repeat the task, but now I have th ...

Is there any way to see tmpfs devices mounted under WSL2/Ubuntu2004 from Windows?
in flag

I'm trying to run some tests against a large number of small-medium (<10KB) files. Everything is going fine, but now I'm at the point where I want to see what I can do with msys2 and github tools against those tmpfs mounts. Unfortunately I don't see any contents when I navigate to those locations over the local network share:

Windows10 screenshot of /mnt on Ubuntu 20.04

Windows10 screenshot of /mnt/ramdisktest 'this folder is empty'

From within WSL2/Ubuntu, however, you can see that the contents of the  ...

I was running Ubuntu server and wanted to use a DE, but now I can't uninstall it. There are some problems with sleep settings, where the server will go to sleep because of some packages installed by KDE Plasma. When I try to remove it I get "not installed so not removed"

Here is exactly what I do.

After installing 20.04 on a 2011 iMac, I get this distorted screen split in 4. A live USB using safe graphics works perfect but not a full install. I don't get a GRUB menu either to load into safe graphics.

Five numbers in kernel version?
es flag

AFAIK linux kernels versions consist of four numbers, each with a distinct meaning.

However when looking into the Ubuntu Mainline Kernel Installer tool, it shows me kernel versions with five numbers:

enter image description here

What is the meaning of the fifth number?

Are there actually two kernels installed on my Kubuntu 21.10 system? When looking into boot partition I can see only a single set of files with 5.13.0-28 numbering ...

Applications overview only shows the first characters of application names

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 21.10 / Gnome 40.4.0 and everything looks great, except for the Applications Overview, which only displays the first few letters of each application. See here

I'm aware that many people are bothered by the Applications Overview not showing the full name of applications, and that some Extensions fix that issue, I believe that my issue is different, as it's even less than what  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
