Completely black screen on startup
cn flag

9 out of 10 times my monitor will stay completely black, no signal, nothing. The monitor just gets a little brighter after I start my pc, and goes back to complete black. Additionally, it sometimes stays black after it went to sleep (worked, idle, went to sleep, stays black). About every 10th time it boots perfectly fine, I see the Asus BIOS menu, then the login, and finally everything is as usual. But  ...

What is boot-repair telling me to do here
nr flag

I'm examining boot-repair to "maybe" fix a problem I'm having with my machine booting to a black screen with just a cursor.

I have another post on the many, many things I've tried, and found a post on using boot repair. So I booted from a live-usb and installed boot-repair and ran it. I didn't select to repair but just to generate a report. At the end of the report it is telling me something  ...

Disable power cycling on usb device error
cn flag

I'm developing an usb full speed device. I'm debugging it directly connected to my workstation. When the device microcontroller is halting on a breakpoint or is being resetted, sometimes the errors that are rised on usb host makes the system powercycle the port and that breaks up my whole usb subsystem. Don't know if it is an driver issue or/and a hardware one. Is there a way to easily disable this beha ...

Why do I have dropped incoming packets from various IPs?
cn flag

I have an Ubuntu VM serving as a WireGuard peer. My network only has my WireGuard port forwarded to my VM (51820 to 192.168.1.2). I think my iptables (below) are set up to only allow (1) SSH from my LAN (2) connections to my WireGuard port (3) SSH from my WG peer (4) related/established traffic and (5) loopback traffic.

However, I still seem to be dropping incoming connections to non-WireGuard po ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
