I have been facing this issue for quite some time; Sometimes - I don't know if this is random or not, and it is not related to the archive size - when I try to unzip the file, the UI becomes completely unresponsive. gb flag

I'm trying to increase txqueuelen from the default 1000 to 5000

If i run

# ip link set enp1s0 txqueuelen 5000

It sets it until I reboot. I've looked at persisting this, and this post suggests using a UDEV rule permanently set txqueuelen in 18.04

I've created this by doing the following

sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/99-persistent-network.rules

Its a new blank file, so I pasted

Kubuntu install hangs on Connex LiteBook
ua flag

I have a Connex LiteBook that won't load into Windows so I don't want to fix that and want to replace it with Ubuntu. Seeing as the LiteBook is pretty weak hardware wise I want to install Kubuntu.

I downloaded the Kubuntu ISO, checked SHA256 hash and then used Startup Disk Creator to make a bootable USB stick.

Went to Laptop, started it, went into BIOS and booted from USB. I see the Grub menu and s ...

Is there a way to use microsoft online voices (tts) in Ubuntu?
gd flag

Microsoft Edge has that feature called "Read Aloud" that allows you to read web pages or ebooks with very realistic voices available online. I checked the Linux version of the browser but that feature isn't available on it (yet). I was wondering if any of you guys had found an app or something that would enable the use of those voices in Ubuntu ? Thx

Help me choose a drive pooling strategy for my NAS / media server
my flag

I'm currently running a NAS with a Ryzen 1600, 16GB of memory, Ubuntu Server, a small SSD for the OS and two 8TB HDDs (mounted at /data and /backup). Both drives are ext4 formatted and about 60% filled up.

/data is holding all my data including nextcloud userdata and movies/tv-series many of which are hardlinked to different locations on the drive. I use Rsnapshot to do nightly backups from /data

VM becomes slow after a while - mostly dbus-daemon and polkitd at top
ru flag

I am running Ubuntu Bionic as a VM on KVM, and after a few days, the VM suddenly becomes slow, when I run top, I see dbus-daemon (high CPU) and polkitd.

A reboot fixes it, but I want to know if there is something that I can do to "fix" the host without a reboot.

Thanks

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
