Where does xplayer store current position in a video
in flag

This started out as idle curiosity, and now I'm starting to get obsessive. When I close xplayer halfway through watching a video, then re-open the same video, it starts from where I was up to. I'm fairly sure it is not modifying the mp4 file itself, so it must be storing them somewhere central, and it must be on disk (because the information survives a reboot).

I can see when I close xplayer tha ...

What I want to do is make a bootable 'exact' copy from my laptop (that runs Ubuntu) and put it on a external ssd.

My plan is to then use this new ssd in my desktop as a bootable Linux installation. Keeping all of my files, commands, settings, etc. My external drive is 1tb compaired to my 256gb laptop drive.

Displaylink lag - known problem with workaround to switch to Wayland?
nl flag

I'm trying to set up a two external monitor setup on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS 64 bit. I'm plugging in the two monitors via an HDMI port (which has always worked) and a USB 3.0 to HDMI port (which is the part causing the issue). Plugging in the HDMI through the adapter introduces lag, which appears to be a known issue, whose proposed solution appears to be to "switch to Wayland".

different pasting behaviour in terminal
us flag

I used 20.04 for a while, but recently upgraded to 21.10. In 20.04, I could paste multiple lines of code into a terminal, and each line would appear as they were executed. This would begin as soon as I pressed "V" in the pasting shortcut.

In 21.10, various portions of the copied code appears when I press "V", and nothing executes until I press Enter. I much prefer how things worked in 20.04 - a ...

set shortcut to move between windows in reverse

version: Ubuntu 18.04

i want to move between windows and work spaces in a "vim-like" way.

I set ctrl+alt u/d to move up/down work spaces, and changed alt tab (switch between windows -->) to ctrl+alt+l. And I want to move in reverse order (<--) using ctrl+alt+h.

The documentation suggests this is done using the shift key: https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/shell-windows-switching.html.en. ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
