Mouse wheel works slow after lock
in flag

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 with mate desktop.

Sometimes it happens that when I resume after locking system, the mouse wheel works really slow, independent on the application (web browser, libre-office, etc..)

If I suspend and then resume, the problem is gone sometimes, but it is not consistent.

Is it a known bug? Any solution for that?

Cannot reboot Ubuntu OS reliably
pt flag

I am repurposing a Dell Latitude E7240 with a 16Gb mSATA SSD, and have been able to install Ubuntu 18.04. However, when I reboot it, the OS doesn't load, and I have to press to enter recovery mode. Sometimes I can type fsck -y /dev/sda1 or go into the menu to fix broken packages and grub bootloader but this doesn't always work. I seem to have ~100+ bad blocks, although the SSD is "healthy," so I wonder ...

Ubuntu root partition takes too much space

I'm using Linux(Ubuntu 20.04) for the first time and using it as dual boot with Windows 10. I researched before I started using it. Found that there are partitions and what they are. I partitioned the SSD between the two operating systems.

I found recommended memories before downloading ubuntu:

root (/): 10-15 GB, I created it as 20 GB,

swap: 2 x RAM, so created it 16 GB,

Ubuntu booting into old kernel; GRUB menu only shows older kernels

UPDATE: After many false starts, it turned out that the line in /etc/fstab that loads /boot to the correct partition had been commented out. After uncommenting that, I could load new kernels normally with apt, and the computer boots normally now.

My Ubuntu machine (20.04) is booting into a much older kernel version and is ignoring several newer kernels. The GRUB menu only shows kernel entries  ...

Are there Virtual Machines that allow lots of VRAM allocation?
id flag

I'm interested in running Fusion 360 and set up a virtual machine to do this effectively. However, VirtualBox caps out at vRAM 256MB which hinders the performance of Fusion, and I was wondering if there are other VMs that offer higher vRAM capacities.

Chrome's "Show in Folder" opens Dolphin after Kde Plasma Install
ar flag

I installed KDE Plasma and I used it for some time, but when I switched back to GNOME, I eventually realized that when I download things when using Google Chrome and select the "show in folder" option, it opens dolphin, which is KDE Plasma's file manager! How do I make it so Google Chrome uses GNOME's file manager instead of KDE's?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
