Configuring VLAN QoS Mapping through netplan
io flag

I am trying to setup a VLAN via netplan with a specific QoS mapping so that I can prioritize traffic through that (virtual) interface. However, I cannot seem to find any way to do that given the available options within netplan, which appears to lack several of the features ip/iproute does.

For instance, I configure a VLAN for an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS device like so using ip-link:

sudo ip link add link enp87 ...

Problem to run "anaconda-navigator"
in flag

I was not able to run the command anaconda-navigator, so I followed the following procedure:

$ source ~/anaconda3/bin/activate root
$ anaconda-navigator

After this, Anaconda Navigator opened, but when I restart the computer, I have to do this again. Is there a way to run it just with the anaconda-navigator command?

Can someone explain how Ubuntu manages wallpapers?
in flag

I am confused about how Ubuntu stores user-selected wallpapers.

I have some pictures I use as wallpapers. We'll call them walla and wallb. Both originate from an encrypted drive that is not automatically mounted. walla is the active wallpaper, but is not in ~/Wallpapers, but wallb is.

So I think "Ok, so Ubuntu must have a place where it copied walla", so to experiment I set wallb.png as the wallpape ...

Hunting down qpaeq graphic equalizer preset files
cn flag

I'm using pulseEQ on Ubuntu 20.04. I get qpaeq up and running and the GUI isn't great. I have sliders with no axis values. I download my equalizer preset from github/autoEQ, but there's no good way for me to import it. I could do it manually, but even then I can't see what gain value the slider is making, there's no sense of scale at all.

I was hoping, then, that when I save a preset, it would ma ...

WebGL vs. Chromium freezes

I'm using Chromium as the main browser on my Ubuntu. A few weeks back I had regularly problems due to Chromium freezing randomly when I opened a context menu on the bookmark bar, or on some other innocent actions.

I found a note somewhere (not sure whether it was an answer, or something like this comment telling me to disable the hardware acceleration in the settings.

This helped to solve the problem ...

Making an app autolaunch in Ubuntu 20.04
co flag

I am using the note-taking app Joplin on Ubuntu 20.04.3 and would like it to autolaunch and minimize upon login. Joplin already contains this feature but it warns that it doesn't work in all desktop environments - and it surely doesn't in Gnome 3.36.8. Is there a way to have the OS autolaunch the app upon login?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
