Is it possible to auto-unlock my Bitlocker-encrypted storage drive on Ubuntu 21.04/21.10?
fr flag

I have a storage drive encrypted with Bitlocker and I can currently access it on Ubuntu 21.04 through Nautilus by manually typing in the password. I have read that it is possible to automatically unlock a LUKS-encrypted drive on logon but I was wondering if this is also possible on a Bitlocker-encrypted drive with cryptsetup. I have read some solutions which use dislocker but are there any altern ...

Why is there no cross-compiler in Arm64 version of Ubuntu?
us flag

In the Amd64 version of Ubuntu, there's the gcc-{version}-{architecture}-linux-gnu packages that I can use to build binaries for different architectures, of which, the built binaries can be tested using qemu-user. But in Arm64 version of Ubuntu, there isn't such cross compiler.

Q1: Why isn't there such packages (as of 20.04 TLS)?

SSH Permission Denied
ci flag

I have a bunch of computers I'm trying to connect to each other with some random router I found lying around. I have all the machines connected to the router and have given them fixed IPs. I have used ssh before and I thought it would be super easy just remote-control the other machines with ssh, but for some reason I get this "permission denied, please try again"-error.

How to import Firefox data on Opera Snap?

I would like to import bookmarks and logins from Firefox into Opera, but this option isn't available, since it's using the snap version. Instead, it only allows to import from a bookmarks file. How would you enable this feature?

Filter photos based on embedded EXIF data
in flag

I use gthumb to manage photos. My camera includes quite a number (dozens) of metadata fields, and I'd like to be able to filter based on the content of one of those fields. Specifically, there's a field 'Multi Exposure Mode', which can take values of off or (3) (and probably others, I'm not sure).

Is it possible to filter on this value?

Can anybody help me do a deep dive into how Dolphin under KDE generates text file thumbnails?
cn flag

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, with KDE installed on top.

Problem: When using a dark theme, text file thumbnails in dolphin use a light color for the text, but do not change the background, leading to white-on-white text, which is all but invisible. (The same problem was present under Kubuntu; I suspect it's common to all KDE Plasma sessions.)

My previous solution was to mess around with the color scheme until I foun ...

AX3000 "No Wifi Adapter Found" but bluetooth works

I just got the AX3000 in and the bluetooth works just fine, however the wifi does not. Oh yeah, I'm running Ubuntu 21.04. I've been using an ethernet cable for a long time now, but I'm now in a situation where a wifi connection would be ideal if not necessary.

I hear it's plug and play for some, and not for others, so I kind of expected it to not work out of the box. After plugging it in, the  ...

Disable built-in display when using external monitor on Wayland (Ubuntu 21.10)

I am running Ubuntu 21.10 on Wayland and have noticed that the built-in monitor of my ThinkPad Carbon X1 5th Gen (2017) is still drawing power, even when it is switched off and the display mode is set to "Single Display" on an external monitor. I used powertop to check power consumption and it shows that Display backlight still draws between 100mW and 1W.

Samba Server Folder Access not Permitted

I can't seem to get windows to connect to the samba file server (error below). I'm using \ \ip\backup where ip is replaced with the internal ip address. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
