Only show changes (and news) relevant to a particular package in apt-listchanges
us flag

I like to view the changelogs and news of packages before I install their updated versions. I also like to install documentation packages (typically '^.*-doc$') related to software that I don't use (or have installed), but this problem has shown up more generally, too.

Unfortunately the changelogs for these documentation packages often include changes to the main package (changelogs/news of "some ...

How are my windows being tiled? And how can I modify it?
cn flag

I can use super➡️ to tile a window on the right half of the screen. (Left arrow to tile on the left, up arrow to maximize; down arrow to restore/unmax)

I thought I was running Compiz, but I disabled Grid in Compiz and my window tiling all still works, which I was not expecting. I think something else is overriding Compiz, but I don't know what it might be and I don't recall having set up an alternati ...

Uppercase to lowercase in nginx module
hm flag

I have a nginx module which is redirecting the user to different folders depending on the URL. The logic is this: mysite.site/folder1, mysite.site/folder2, mysite.site/folder3 etc. What I want to do is to enforce that if the user writes mysite.site/Folder1 my server converts this to mysite.site/folder1 because otherwise the user is receiving 500 Internal Server Error. Any suggestion? this is my module:

get tcp and udp traffic (separate) from the command line, not continuous
us flag

I need to find a way to, with a single command, show network traffic by total IP, TCP, UDP. I will then parse the output and send the results to a 3rd party network monitoring tool.

I'm not interested in traffic per socket, process, etc., not interested in peeking into the packets, I just want something like I get out of a simple dstat command:

dstat -n 1 2

this gives total IP traffic.
I want this, p ...

Local Repository - "Failed to fetch" despite apt update being successful - Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

I've seen quite a few postings regarding this question, but they either do not provide a solution to my problem or they are referring to much older versions of Ubuntu. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS - Desktop for client virtual machine and Server acting as repository server. I've set up a local repository on the server to the best of ability, having limited knowledge of Linux in general. I've verified p ...

Display looks a bit washed out, blacks look almost gray and colors not very vibrant
cn flag

I've been using Ubuntu for a while now and I like it a lot, and I'm definitely not switching back to Windows. However, the thing that has bugged me is that the display on my Ubuntu install aren't as vibrant as my Windows, and looks very washed out. The blacks aren't as dark and the whites are kind of flat and not very bright.

I've also looked up this issue online and found the fix:

Image height and width are inverted in Ubuntu vs Windows
ng flag

Given this image, I tried to read the image height and width in pixel values, but they are inverted on my Ubuntu PC (Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS). When I open the image to visualize it, is clear that height > width.

Windows gets it right though:

So width should be 336 and height 448.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
