Image height and width are inverted in Ubuntu vs Windows
ng flag

Given this image, I tried to read the image height and width in pixel values, but they are inverted on my Ubuntu PC (Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS). When I open the image to visualize it, is clear that height > width.

Windows gets it right though:

enter image description here

So width should be 336 and height 448.

On Ubuntu I tried (one needs imagemagick installed, so if needed: sudo apt-get install imagemagick):

Per monitor scaling on Wayland GNOME
fr flag

I need to set per monitor scaling in Gnome Wayland. I followed instructions and set /com/ubuntu/user-interface/scale-factor to {'XWAYLAND0': 8, 'XWAYLAND1': 4}. The object keys are the display keys from xrandr log. The XWAYLAND0 is laptop display and XWAYLAND1 is external monitor. I just want to scale down the external monitor. This seems to do nothing. Any tips?

Ubuntu 21.10 - how to configure key combination for keyboard layout switch
ae flag

I use Ubuntu with two input languages, switching between them with Super+Space.

I have upgraded Ubuntu to 21.10, and during the installation it has asked to select another key combination, not offering Super+Space, so I chose next commonly used combination left Shift+Ctrl.

Now the problem - both combinations are active, and all existing key combinations that involve Ctrl+Shift stopped working. How d ...

How do I achieve dual boot after a custom Ubuntu install on a Windows 11 machine?
cn flag

I am trying to add Ubuntu to a new Windows machine. It has a 1 TB SSD with Windows 11 on it. I have shrunk the Windows partition and freed up 500 GB of space for Linux. When I install Ubuntu there's two options "install alongside Windows" or "Something else". Since I want to use another file system (btrfs) I assume I need to choose "Something else" which is what I did. After having assigned the free sp ...

Install Ubuntu to SSD On Ubuntu

I have a new SSD and I want to make a fresh installation of Ubuntu on it (so I can replace my existing SATA connected SSD on my computer).

Is there a way I could do that from my existing ubuntu computer? I am able to connect the SSD to the computer (via sata-to-USB cable).

I have installed VirtualBox and tried to "play with the settings", but I can't figure out if it's possible.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
