PPA: Install old version
in flag

I am trying to install package qelectrotech on ubuntu 18.04.
After installing I got (old) version 0.5-2. So I added a PPA (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:scorpio/qelectrotech-dev) source to get the newer version. But they don't work automatically. Now I need to manually force "downgrade" and look for the version to get a new version of 0.90.
After checking, I realised that my ubuntu system added some ver ...

What is linux-modules-nvidia and what features does it make available?
in flag

Seems there are 3 ways to install NVIDIA proprietary drivers.

  1. script from NVIDIA direct
  2. nvidia-driver-* from repo
  3. linux-modules-nvidia-* \ nvidia-kernel-common-* from repo

When I installed Ubuntu, I selected the option to scan for proprietary drivers and got the linux-modules-nvidia-* installed. I don't seem to be getting the best from my card as I still get tearing. Started looking around and I d ...

OpenSSH using SSH and SFTP with ForceCommand
in flag

I have an ubuntu server using Openssh and currently the sshd_config file is configured with ForceCommand internal-sftp but this breaks ssh. I only need ssh for the ability to run java programs. Is there a way to add java commands to the list of available commands given with internal-sftp commands. Is there a way I could just merge the two?

Virtual audio splitter?
pk flag

I want to split audio coming from a program into 2 usable streams. One for being able to listen to, and one for directing audio into Discord's microphone input for streaming because discord doesn't support audio streaming on linux yet. How can I achieve this using pulseaudio? I've been looking at the docs but I haven't found anything that seems like it would work.

ELAN Touchpad not working
zm flag

I was using my touchpad just fine for quite a while (months), and one day I simply turned on my laptop and it no longer functions. I tried messing with input drivers, and I've found out if I remove xserver-xorg-input-libinput, and install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, the touchpad will work, but then I can't use my keyboard. If I install libinput after that, the touchpad no longer works.

What do I need to do to install 21.10 with btrfs?
in flag

I’m currently using Ubuntu 21.04 with ext4 on an internal 2TB nvme drive (AMD Ryzen with no dual boot). I want to upgrade to 21.10 with btrfs. I’m assuming I need to totally wipe out 21.04 and do a clean install of 21.10 in order to go from ext4 to btrfs. If this assumption is wrong, let me know.

I’ll first do a Clonezilla clone of my main hard drive to an external drive (I've got Clonezill ...

moving multiple files in multiple directories

I have a directory, within are many directories (abc1 abc2 abc3 etc.) that contain a sub-directory - always the same name (MATCHING_STRING) - full of files. I want to remove that sub-directory (MATCHING_STRING), keeping files in their own abc# directory. I don't want all files ending up in 1 location as would happen with mv */* .

If I dual boot Ubuntu on my Windows desktop and then I use Ubuntu, is that considered native ubuntu?

Essentially I would like to Learn ROS with Gazebo and Rviz. So if I have to get rid of windows to use those efficiently I would. If I dual boot would those programs run just as well as if I had only Ubuntu on my system?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
