My screen freezes when I'm multitasking and videos loop
cn flag

My screen gets frozen when I'm doing multiple tasks. No keyboard key works and I have to do a manual shutdown of the laptop when this happens. So far it's been four times in three days.

Also if I play a song on Spotify it works as a loop between 2s in a song.

I am a new user of Ubuntu. My system has 8GB ram and a swap partition of 16GB I used.

Any suggestions?

setxkbmap no longer works as expected
br flag

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, gnome 3.36.8.

Part of my problem may be this: Keyboard Map is Changed Randomly (the dconf fix didn't work). Basically, when a new device is connected, the keyboard map seems to be reset, e.g. a USB webcam. The issue also occurs when a bluetooth device connects.

However, so far, I could fix this with setxkbmap, going back to my preferred layout (a custom layout). However, ...

Studio Controls v2.2.1-0 does not execute in Ubuntu Studio 20.04.3
us flag

For the past few weeks Studio Controls v2.2.1-0 has failed to execute in Ubuntu Studio 20.04.3. The backports ppa is enabled. Jack appears not to be running. I still have sound (from Pulse Audio?) but Jack does not appear as an option in Audacity. Nor does it appear in the systray Audio Mixer. Any suggestions for troubleshooting this appreciated.

How to disable S/PDIF (IEC958) profiles in Gnome and PulseAudio
fr flag

While I have no S/PDIF interfaces on my computer anymore these days, Gnome sound settings still shows me a list twice as long as necessary. With a few displays, DACs and Bluetooth transmitters, a list of 8 or more entries becomes a problem to select from when there a not actually that many devices present.

Can we hide or remove these?

Ever since the 21.04 switch to Wayland, mpv has been saying:

and yet has been working flawlessly (including with mp4 files). Until now. This new problem only seems to occur with mp4:

I would like to check how many devices including mine are connected to the active hotspot, and perhaps manage the devices by kicking out unwanted devices that might be connected to my hotspot. I was surprised to find no such options avaliable in Ubuntu as almost all mobile phones have it.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
