Shutdown on opening laptop lid due to acpi detecting high temperature
ru flag

I have ASUS ROG GL503E running ubuntu dual booted with windows. On Ubuntu almost always on opening my laptop lid acpi detects temperature to be 100 C and shuts down the machine, even though physically the machine is not warm at all. This only happens on Ubuntu and not on Windows. That is why I suspect this to be a software issue than a hardware one. Could this be due to an acpi bug? I also upgraded my B ...

polkit? How do I make timeshift gui start without making me enter my password? (`Authentication is needed to run '/usr/bin/env' as the super user`)

My headphones temporarily disconnect when volume gets too loud on ubuntu 21.04

I'm using USB headphones (Razer Kraken Kitty Edition) and any time the audio spikes for any reason whatsoever (watching a loud video, someone screams in a discord call etc) My headphones completely disconnect for about 3 seconds. I can post any logs if needed, I'm just unsure what I would need to post.

21.10: switch between 3 and 4 finger swipe to change workspace
bd flag

In 20.04 in Gnome desktop on Wayland I can swipe with four fingers to initiate a switch between workspaces, but in 21.10 I have to use three fingers.

Is there a way to choose between a 3 or 4 finger swipe for this action in 21.10? I find a three finger swipe a needless inconsistency with the other OSes on the same machine, which all use 4 fingers.

How do I add and mount a new hard drive in an Ubuntu Appliance running on a NUC?
in flag

Background: I initially read through the How to use the Nextcloud Ubuntu Appliance tutorial and have successfully deployed Nextcloud on an Intel NUC. It's already configured and working through firewall with a static IP, SSL, and all that good stuff.

Question: How can I add a volume from a newly installed HDD in my NUC to the Nextcloud Ubuntu Appliance that's running on that NUC?

These cards were working under a 16.04 server but that server died so I built up a new box running 20.04 and, when I install the cards, they don't work.

I was trying to view the camera with zoneminder but I had no luck. To troubleshoot the issue, I deleted the monitor in zoneminder (to ensure the device isn't being used), downloaded v4l-utils*, built v4l2grab and when I ran it, the saved files c ...

I am trying to find a solution to setup KVM with an internal NAT based bridge, I am using NetPlan for config

Essentially my server is a dedicated server from a provider so I do not have an internal network to play with. I know on the Windows platform with Hyper-V I can just create a VM switch and assign it an IP/mask, create a NAT for that IP/mask and boom! You have a gateway and subnet you can u ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
