Intense screen flickering, vertical rainbow bars, display problems on Ubuntu 20.04, Lenovo X1 Carbon
fr flag

Starting today (Aug 24) I observed intense screen flickering and tearing on my Ubuntu 20.04.3 on the Lenovo X1 Carbon. As far as I know, there were no shutdowns, updates, or changes. I observed this behavior once the machine started up from sleep. Throughout the day I have restarted (and powered down) the machine several times, but the problem persists.

Here is a video example: https://photos.app.goo ...

The packets sent with vlan tag 10 & 20 are received on both sockets. Why I am receiving 4 packets while only 2 packets were sent and also all received packets are untagged (without vlan tag)? What might be the issue?

here is the relevant code: Create: sock = socket(AF_PACKET, SOCK_RAW, htons(MY_ETHTYPE));

memset(&if_opts, 0, sizeof(if_opts));

On my machine, I have Windows 8 and Ubuntu 20.04. Everything was going smoothly. At the time power on or restart, I was getting 2 options to choose from (Windows or Ubuntu).

Due to COVID-19, I installed AnyDesk (a remote desktop software) to work from home. AnyDesk was showing some error and after searching Google, StackOverflow, and so on, I have changed something on the BIOS. What I changed, I forgot.

cpufreq: cpu frequency going down to minimum just when I need extra power
in flag

I've spent almost 3 days around this problem, to no avail.

I felt the laptop was running slow on certain tasks, slower than usual so I downloaded cpufreq extension to try and monitor and maybe directly control the CPU running frequency and power consumption.

The problem is that I always see the CPU frequency drop to a minimal value (either 800MHz or 400MHz) on all 8 cores for no apparent reason. t ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
