It ran well even if a little show before when running the somewhat bloated Ubuntu Studio and only 1GB RAM, then better with the lighter-weight Xubuntu 22.10 and 2GB but after upgrading Kubuntu from 22.10 to 23.04, apps do nothing when I click on them and none of my desktop items are there even though they are visible in the /home/Desktop folder.

Building an LFS for a school assignment got stuck on the gcc part of ch 5. I already checked to make sure that gcc is installed and ran sudo apt install build-essential and both are working properly. Stuck on reboot after Ubuntu 23.04 install

After upgrading from Ubuntu 22.10 to Ubuntu 23.04, the boot gets stuck on 2 processes:

  1. Job gpu-manager.service/start

  2. Job plymouth-quit-wait.service/start

Do green numbers on icons in the dock mean I should be doing something?

I just now upgraded from Ubuntu 22.10 to Ubuntu 23.04 using the GUI upgrade tool. Since the upgrade, little green circles with numbers have appeared in the upper right corner of some of the icons in the Dock. For example:

  • The Files icon has a green circle with '3' in it, even when I don't have a Files folder open.
  • Firefox does not have any green circle/number on it when it is not open, but when I run  ...

Problem with Jack Audio Server

I use Ubuntu-Studio 22-04-2 LTS (64 bit machine), with Jack Audio Connections Kit to handle all the internal and external audio used in the PC.

I don't know why but, since the last system upgrading (2 days ago) the "DEFAULT SINK" and "DEFAULT SOURCE" items don't appear selected as the "STANDARD" Jack connections (JACK SINK and JACK SOURCE), as it is expected each time the system is started.

Bluetooth does not work every time on startup - Ubuntu 22.04, Asus BT500 BT adapter

I got an "Asus BT500" usb adapter for my retropie machine running ubuntu 22.04. It pairs fine with my xbox controllers but on boot it will sometimes say, "Bluetooth hci0: command 0x1001 tx timeout" and proceed to not work until I unplug it and plug it back in. Ubuntu Studio 22.04 LTS - unstable at login screen

How to disable split desktop window dragging?

Just updated to Kubuntu 23.04 and noticed this: when I have 2 windows split on the desktop, one on the left-half and other on the right-half - dragging the window size in the middle drags both windows.

How can I turn this behavior off permanently?

As well - as soon as I drag this middle part once, all other windows are aligning to this new percentage instead of 50/50 when pressing meta+left/meta+righ ...

I am following this question to set my volume levels from the command line. I need to be able to set the volume from within a tmux session (actually from a node process running in tmux).

When I run amixer -D pulse sset Master 50% straight in my ssh session, it works just fine.

Trouble with wifi connection on ubuntu 22.04 (laptop)

I'm having really slow wifi speed using my internal adapter, I've tried using an external USB wifi adapter and that seemed to fixed the issue (sometimes, others it doesn't).

Using NVIDIA drivers nvidia-driver-530 leads to ACPI errors during startup. Surely the graphics card does work and the desktop seems to operate flawlessly. Quick Battery Drain in Suspend Mode

I am using Ubuntu 22.10 and my laptop is a Dell XPS 13 9365. When I check my suspend type by typing

cat /sys/power/mem_sleep

it returns

s2idle [deep]

which I believe should save the most power. Despite this, I lose at least 4%-5% per hour. Recently my laptop battery was drained completely when initially fully charged in less than 12 hours.

I upgraded to Ubuntu 23.04 and was testing 'Family Tree Maker 16' (FTM) and had problems. Initially just iKernel.exe was an issue. I resolved this by using a new WINEPREFIX. Now I have the error 'a bitmap could not be found or bitmap load failed'. Does anyone know how to solve this or how to replace wine 8.0 with wine 7.0?

This used to work on Ubuntu 22.10 and prior versions back as far as Ubuntu 14 ...

Removing desktop components from a server

I originally installed desktop ubuntu on a machine that I repurposed as a server.

I tried remove all graphics components from it. Qt, Gtk, and its dependencies I was able to remove.

When I removed all traces of X, it left me with a failing initramfs, because that depends on a spinner graphic, which depends on X11?
