Edge scrolling on Ubuntu Gnome, not working as like Ubuntu Unity - 20.04
pm flag

The edge scrolling on Ubuntu Gnome 20.04 suddenly stops working. And overall is not as smooth as Ubuntu Unity 20.04.

I simply change the Gnome DE to Unity, and the scroll works excellently.

Change it back to Gnome DE, and it's a nightmare.

  1. It's not smooth as on the Unity DE - Subjective so not a big issue
  2. Suddenly loses the scroll functionality (moves the cursor instead of scrolling)

How do I fix this w ...

4 GB RAM not detectable by BIOS and the OS
pl flag

I had a 4 GB RAM in the Ubuntu system, then I bought again a 4 GB RAM, but this time the new RAM is not detectable by OS as well as BIOS.

My motherboard supports 8 GB RAM 800/1067 MHz RAM

old ram -> 4 GB 1600 MHz detectable

new ram -> 4 GB 1600 MHz non detectable

free -m shows only 4 GB of RAM.

lshw command also tells that only 4 GB RAM is plugged that is the old one.

I have an Ubuntu 20.04.2 laptop with GNOME 3.36.8 with a 1920x1080 display connected to a 3840x2160 monitor via an HDMI cable. The problem I'm having is that I would like to scale up the contents of the 4k monitor while keeping the laptop's display the same.

Here's what I have tried:

I turned on fractional scaling in the GNOME display settings and set the monitor's scale to 200% and the laptop's dis ...

alert /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root does not exist after using fdisk to add a new partition

I wanted to add windows as a dual boot option to my existing linux system. Since all the tutorials mentioned having a dedicated partition for the installation, I used fdisk to create a new primary partition. However it did throw an error (cannot recall frustratingly) that Google said would be solved by rebooting. I tried rebooting and bam, initramfs screen that told me "alert /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ...

I'm suddenly getting 1-2 FPS instead of 60+ in games. I haven't changed anything (on purpose). Where can I start to diagnose?
in flag

I've got a really odd issue:

Today while using my Machine (Ubuntu 20.04 on Intel i5 + AMD R9390X) I noticed that I could no longer do audio-over-displayport. I tried pulseaudio -k and re-plugging the cable to no avail, so I rebooted.

Then after a reboot the resolution was locked at 1024x768. No other options in settings and any attempt to do xrandr --newmode failed with an error about gamma levels:

Ubuntu Desktop (20.04 LTS) Keeps prompting for WiFi password

I recently just installed Ubuntu Desktop (20.04 LTS) on my PC. Out of the box, it did not come with a wireless driver for my TP-Link USB wireless adapter. After installing the RTL8812AU driver, it now constantly keeps asking me to enter my WiFi password even though it is set to save the password, and I'm typing it correctly. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
