Focal: graphics extremely choppy — but not on the login screen

I've been having problems with my dell Optiplex, which runs 18.04 and has a built-in, integrated Intel GPU. I tried putting an AMD Radeon external video card in it, but this didn't seem to improve my video enough so I removed it. Now, my video is very choppy and I've tried rolling back the kernel, creating a new user, and switching between X and Wayland.

However, there is one place where my video ...

Is it possible to repair OS Ubuntu through a flash session AND from another device?
cn flag

Well, my BIOS UEFI stopped to show up during the boot these last days, I tried the solution of MarbleMuffin unfortunately it didn't work. Actually, the BIOS option didn't show up but the OS Ubuntu did.

Because this change clearly seems to be related to a kernel update, I uninstalled the last kernel as presented in documentation through Synaptics program. The issue now is neither the BIOS, nor the OS s ...

Wired network keeps disconnecting for a few seconds at a time
jp flag

Every few minutes or so the connection to the network completely drops for several seconds. I can see this in nload when there is no incoming or outgoing data for a few seconds even while running something like a Minecraft server for a constant network load. I know it is not the network because all of my other computers work fine even when this computer disconnects.

I get wireguard working from my ubuntu laptop to my linode running ubuntu, but after the first couple of connections it stops connecting. Even my ssh to the server stops working. I have to run wp-quick down on the client to restore my connections, however, without wireguard.

CPU fan works very fast

since I upgraded to 21.04, I realized the CPU fan is working with more sound and speed, even when I'm in online classes or watching a YouTube video or just I'm in Firefox.

I didn't have this problem with the earlier versions, even when temperature of the exhaust air was so high.

How to remove the delay in the switch windows function in Ubuntu
sa flag

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS and notice a horrible delay (about half a second or more) in the switch windows function (I've replaced the default alt+tab for switching windows / the ungrouped function). So the gnome extension won't work unfortunately.

Any ideas?

After an apt-upgrade, my KDE dock/task manager icons in Kubuntu are all black

I recently ran do-release-upgrade to upgrade to Kubuntu 21.04 from 20.04 without issue. Other than some (expected) differences in configuration files, nothing failed. When I logged in to plasma, I was surprised to see all the sys tray's icons have been replaced with black placeholder squares -- see screenshot below. How to set default file permissions for files created via GUI?
mx flag

How do I set default file permissions for files created via the GUI--e.g., in Nautilus, LibreOffice, or any other desktop application?

The default 775 for directories and 664 for files is far too permissive for my taste. I don't use ACLs (or, at least, not to my knowledge).

I have tried setting umask in ~/.profile and ~/.bashrc, but these do not appear to have any effect.

Thanks.

Creating Keyboard Shortcuts for specific applications
bg flag

I am using Kubuntu 20.04 LTS.

I am also using Notepad++ installed through Wine.

Keys F3, F4, and F5 are custom global shortcuts on my system.

Is it possible for me to be able to create shortcuts just for Notepad++ application and use these keys for different commands on Kubuntu?

It means if F3 is assigned globally to zoom in, when Notepad++ Window is active, it will be assigned to undo, for example.

How do disable a Swap partition to use Free space?

Hello I'm new at using Ubuntu. I'm using a Virtual box to run Ubuntu but I ran out of storage space so I added more storage to the Virtual box.

My issue here is that I cannot allocate the unallocated space to my Filesystem partition. From what I read is because I have a "Swap partition 2" between the Filesystem and the Free Space partitions.

I have read about using:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
