Can't access GRUB after installing Ubuntu 20.04
cm flag

I have a 120 GB Kingston SSD on a Compaq S21 laptop with Windows 10 Pro installed. Yesterday I installed Ubuntu 21.10, choosing Advanced option during installation (not "Install Ubuntu alongside Windows") because I already had a 38 GB empty partition for it. After installing Ubuntu, it started and ran perfectly but no GRUB menu was showing and I couldn't access Windows.

I went to BIOS settings an ...

How to stop Evolution from restoring deleted calendar events?

I have an event that was created by someone else and sent to three separate calendars (two Google and one from another provider), so it appears three times on my Evolution calendar display. This is driving me nuts, so I want to delete two of them.

If I right-click on the duplicate events and select "Delete Appointment," they go away. But then they come back a few minutes later. This is true both f ...

Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 live USBs hard freeze after adding the universe repository
cn flag

Booting an ASRock Z97 Extreme4 motherboard + Core i5 4690k Devil's Canyon CPU with a live USB of either Ubuntu 18.04 or Ubuntu 20.04 would hard freeze after adding the universe repository when the refresh was running. The results of sudo apt update showed the update was finished, and then Ubuntu would freeze. It would respond to the magic SysReq keys, but not to the mouse or Caps Lock key.

Cloned disk refuses to boot
az flag

I have a Ubuntu box which is currently running on an old 500GB HDD.

As I got hold of a 240GB SSD and the HDD was only used partially (10% used) I decided to clone the HDD to the SSD.

Since the HDD is larger then the SSD, I defragmented it and resized its data partition to a size under 240GB. After this the system is still working and boots up as usual.

Here is the new HDD geometry as reported by gparted.

Since the SSD was on a 100% Windows machine  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
