How to add USB boot option to grub.cfg in Ubuntu 20.04?
in flag

I have confirmed that the USB has a proper bootable Ubuntu ISO on it with the file command.
USB is plugged in the laptop.
The grub menu does get shown on its own at the startup.

Problem is that there is no option to boot from USB.

Now I want to edit grub.cfg such that it contains USB boot options.
What do I do from here?

Also, /boot/grub/grub.cfg:

To test and learn I've installed several DEs Plasma, Ubuntu Gnome etc.

Other times, after removing one of them, many packages disappear and the remaining DEs are left almost unusable.

Is there a safe way to remove DEs?

Canonical guidance on filesystem choices?
cn flag

Paying Canonical UA customer, relatively new to Ubuntu, coming from 10+ years of RHEL administration.

I've searched the paywalled Canonical KB, as well as Canonical public sources and haven't found a document similar to Red Hat's "How to Choose Your Red Hat Enterprise Linux File System"1 KB.

Does anyone know of any guidance from Canonical covering rationale for choosing EXT4 as the default OS filesys ...

My laptop gets shutdown while using ubuntu 20.04 LTS installed as dual boot with window 10
us flag

I am using Windows 10 as the default operating system of my laptop. I have installed Ubuntu 20.04.03 LTS yesterday on the same laptop as dual boot. Now, when I use Windows 10 it runs perfectly but Ubuntu makes the laptop shut down suddenly when the desktop appears. The time period of shutting down is not the same. Sometimes it keeps running for hours but sometimes it suddenly shut down the system right  ...

I have a strange problem with the keyboard on an HP Elitebook portable. Wrong characters are only produces when I press the shift key (capitals).

Errors persist (but with different characters if I use a different language). I was not able to test an external keyboard.

So I get Z| or Q| for pressing | (with the left or the right shift key pressed respectively) Y^ and U^ for ^ <" and I" for "

I have a small network of computers that can be moved between sites.

These computers are connected to a switch, and one of them acts as DHCP server and DNS server via dnsmasq for this network, let's call it MAINPC.

The DNS is used only to provide name resolution between these computers, and if you add another computer to the LAN, it will be added to the DNS via dnsmasq.

The rest of DNS names have to be ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
