No login prompt on console Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS (running on qemu Synology)
it flag

With one of the last Ubuntu updates I can't login on console anymore, because I'm getting no login prompt.

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on a Synology Virtual Machine and try to connect to the console via the web interface. I only see some kernel messages.

I tried to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 / Ctrl+F1, but no success. I guess the web interface doesn't send these special key combination correctly.

Any ideas?

can't resize windows, can't move them, can't use right click, etc
fr flag

everyone. I experience some problems with Ubuntu Studio. The problems are: I can't resize, move, minimize, maximize any window. When computer boots up, mouse cursor is in a shape of an X, instead of a pointer. Right click doesn't work. When I log in as a specific user, desktop icons and folders show up, but "task/menu bar" is gone. Looks like graphics are shown incorrectly. Updating doesn't help.

Full brightness on startup after the recent update

After every reboot, my laptop, on startup is on with 100% brightness. I have to manually turn it down using the function keys everytime. Generally, the default start-up brightness used to be around 20% which too I had used to turn down, but now after a recent update it has reached to 100% on its own.

My other laptop running the same version is still at 20% default start-up brightness. I know ther ...

gnome-shell CPU usage spiking

So I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and gnome-shell seems to spike at random, causing my system to freeze for around 5 seconds before resuming. I've tried disabling all extensions but that didn't help. I've captured a few logs and it seems that this happens every time the CPU usage spikes:

Lost ability to add GPG key and stable repo from deb file

Background -

I installed the protonVPN latest release. It provides a deb file which launches "Ubuntu Software" when double clicked. This allows you to install it which adds the ProtonVPN GPG key and stable repo URLs.

The program would not run after install so I uninstalled and tried the beta release version. Then I continued to have the same issues.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
