Cant login to tty on ubuntu 20.04, login incorrect and cant go to recovery
us flag

Probably /var does not have free space. It had happened before that I needed to empty /var. That is why it prompts to tty when it starts. I can't log in normally.

It says after the prompt,

`/dev/nvme0n1p5: clean 203241/4063232 files 1974099/16250112 blocks`

It does not change. I restarted lots of times but always is the same numbers.

And, I cant cancel when I press Ctrl + C on the first screen. It  ...

How to access encrypted samba share?
mx flag

I have a home file and print server running samba on Ubuntu 20.04 Server.

I would like to encrypt traffic between clients and the server. My understanding from man smb.conf is that this is done by setting [global] smb encrypt = required in /etc/samba/smb.conf.

However, when I do this I cannot access my shares from a client on the local network running Ubuntu 20.04.3 Desktop. The error it returns is  ...

How do I extend root partition?
za flag

My root partition is 90% full because, when I installed Ubuntu, I thought that my /home partition needed more space. So right now I have a 20 GB root partition, 150 GB for my /home partition, and 40 GB of unallocated space that I would like to give to my root partition! Note that I am dual booting Ubuntu with Windows 11.

I tried using GParted, and the disk manager from Ubuntu, but it was unsuccessful ...

I see that latest netboot mini.iso of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) still has kernel version 5.4.0-42 which is quiet old.

Is it possible to have the same netboot mini.iso with newer kernel, for example HWE 5.13?

Libre Writer breaks image after exporting to PDF
br flag

I am having issues with PDF exporting in Libre Writer (version 7.1.2.2). I have one image on the header of the document which is showing nicely in Writer, but once I export it, no matter how much I try to compress it in the output settings the image keeps getting cropped.

I only found this old topic on ask.ubuntu: https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/image-damaged-when-printing-or-exporting-to-pdf/15511 ...

Ubuntu Core 20 cannot start after install due to needing a recovery key

It's able to put keys away, encrypt everything, etc etc. However, without fail, after it reboots post install it demands a recovery key for the drive i ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
