Mapping `del` functionality onto another key doesn't preserve single-press repeat functionality
de flag

My del key is working just fine with single-press repeat actin (i.e. if I keep it pressed, it keeps deleting characters) but if I try to map it (or the DEL functionality` onto another key, this breaks.

The mapped-onto-key still works for a single press, but not for repeat presses.

My ~/.Xmodmap looks just the same for both keys:

"Power off" or "Restart" immediately kills all processes, causing lost work, in 20.04 Focal Fossa
cn flag

It has always done this for me, on 3 computers I've used Ubuntu with, with several different kernels. E.g. I can open a new document in LibreOffice, write some text, then choose "Power off" or "Restart" and the machine instantly shuts down (like holding the power button in). Isn't it supposed to prompt you to save unsaved work first?

Something similar was asked several years ago, and apparently t ...

Zoom with Wayland - Fails on starting a session
in flag

I am using Ubuntu 21.10 and have been having difficulties getting a Zoom session going. It was crashing each time I started a session, I found it necessary to restart Zoom usually 3, 4 or 5 times before it got going, once started it would stay working.

Ubuntu 21.10 uses a Snap install of the Zoom client

bluetooth: call audio loop when paired with phone
ru flag

I have a phone connected to my Ubuntu 21.10 PC via bluetooth, sharing phone calls and media audio. I basically want to use the PC as a headset with access to two-way audio during calls.

Media from the phone is played on the laptop speakers as expected. Blueman shows that the High Fidelity Capture (A2DP Source) audio profile is selected.

During a call the profile switches to Headset Audio Gateway  ...

Change x2go TMPDIR to somewhere other than /tmp
in flag

x2go creates large files in /tmp/.x2go-username when a session is saved. This is causing us trouble because /tmp is filling up and no users can log in. Our /tmp directory is too small and I don't have access to increase. We need to change the default tmp directory from /tmp to /app.

I have set TMPDIR in my .profile and also in /etc/x2go/Xsession to /app

Configure only an ip address for an isolated eth0 attached to an ip cam
ca flag

I have ubuntu 20.04 server on a raspberry pi 4B. It is connected to my lan via wlan0, no problem, using netplan. It is monitoring some BLE devices. Now I want to connect an IP cam to my ethernet port. I want eth0 to have ip address 192.168.3.1. In the old days I would simply run ifconfig eth0 192.168.3.1 up in rc.local and also set up a cron job to make sure eth0 had not been dropped.

There is something wrong at three variables.

When I try to access my remote Ubuntu server via remotedesktop I'm presented with two login options,

  • Default Launch the default XSession

The first option works provided that I am logged out of the remote system. Option two does not work. I cannot access a current session.

Is there anyway to access a current session?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
