ls -a or ls -lR shows empty result
in flag

at my /usr/local/lib/python3.8/dist-packages, I run sudo ls -a and it shows empty:

$ sudo ls -a
.  ..

With ls -lR it also shows empty:

$ sudo ls -lR
.:
total 0

But there is actually stuff there when I open that directory in VS Code:

Am I understanding the ls command incorrectly or there should be more to do to see the result?

cn flag

I have a pc with two 250 gb ssd's. I have ubuntu 21.10 on working well on one, and I want to install another linux-based os on the other so as to have a dual-boot. I have tried mounting the second ssd (with the first ssd) and installing the other os on it with Balena etcher as if it were a flash drive. When I boot to it, it thinks it is a flash drive, and treats the installation like it, asking me to  ...

Audio Connection troubleshoot
nf flag

Am really tired of restarting my system every time an audio device is disconnected, it will mostly not be found. I wish it was as easy as plugging it in again as you would in Windows 11. for a "low reboot environment" but then the troubleshooting always restarts. Why is it like that?

Sorry I'm messy but this is seriously weak by the developers.

Ubuntu GFX stops software from using hardware acceleration
in flag

I have a real big problem, unless the software I'm trying to use is native to Ubuntu 20.04 it will not work unless the software has the ability to disable hardware acceleration.

EG Google-chrome will ONLY work if hardware acceleration is disabled, otherwise I have to run it inside a terminal, the same goes for Discord, gedit and other native Ubuntu apps work fine, even Firefox has to be run insid ...

How to reinstall GRUB on an LVM system?
gp flag

I have an old system installed Ubuntu 18.04 (desktop). It was partitioned /boot/efi on /dev/sda1, /boot on /dev/sda2, and / on /dev/sda3 (with LVM). The /boot partition was too small to install new packages. Therefore, I umounted the /boot and the /boot/efi partitions, and commented mounting /boot in /etc/fstab. Later, I reinstalled Ubuntu 20.04 on /boot, which is on the LVM volume.

Ubuntu 21.10: Bluetooth headphones pair but PulseAudio doesn't discover it

I'm running ubuntu 21.04 on a framework laptop with an Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 wireless card. I downloaded the iwlwifi-ty-59.601f3a66.0.tgz driver from here and put it in /lib/firmware, so should be up-to-date. Also all my packages are up-to-date.

I want to listen to audio through my bluetooth headset instead of the laptop's built-in speakers. However, it doesn't seem to show up in pavucontrol no matter  ...

Switching from a VM: How much “overhead” does the desktop version add versus the server version?

I usually use Ubuntu on VitrualBox machines and use the server distro. I’m considering installing Ubuntu directly to the hardware, but I’m concerned about not having a GUI option at all.

With the desktop version I’m not concerned about disk space, but performance. Does it have a significant effect on overall performance? Or am I worrying too much? Won’t I get a performance boost by no ...

How to Restore a Flash Drive I Used to Install My System
cn flag

I recently got Ubuntu 21.10, and to install it, I used a Lexar 16GB flash drive. However, now that I've used it for what I needed it for, I want to restore the flash drive to its original 16GB capacity so I can use it for other things. Is there a way to achieve this?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
