Making A Shell Script Run Forever
mx flag

I have an Ubuntu 20.04 VM. I connect to it via SSH and run ./script.sh. It runs for as long as I am connected to the VM, but the moment I disconnect, it stops running.

I understand that I can use crontab, but as per my understanding, it will run ./script.sh every minute, instead of running ./script.sh once and then letting it run.

I wish to make it run forever. How can I do this? Will I have to ma ...

I use Libre Office software to type university pamphlets, but the point I noticed is that after taking the PDF output from the final text, it is not possible to search for the word <لا>, but if we move the letters ا and ل, it means to Searching for the word <ال> instead of the word لا displays it. (Of course, it does the search correctly in the ODT file).

Can I install Ubuntu 20.04 on a system running Intel Alder Lake architecture
af flag

Intel Alder Lake has a new power + efficiency core architecture. As I understand it, the Linux Kernel does not currently support it.

Could I still run Ubuntu LTS on this hardware. What would the implications be? Would the OS treat all cores the same or would the efficiency cores sit idle?

Lubuntu 20.04LTS
fr flag

I upgraded from Lubuntu 18.04LTS after months of 'upgrade'-pestering by unwittingly pressing the 'upgrade' button that comes with it and then decided to go along with it.

My Dell Optiplex 7010 is now not VERY slow, but noticeably slower than when it was run on 18.04LTS. Does anyone know what needs to be done to make the Lubuntu 20.04LTS run it faster, if at all?

I have a question. Turns out I use Zoom for video conferencing. Now when I share a video, Zoom changes the output of all the programs to "zoom_combine_device" so that the audio is output from the computer, and when the video is finished it returns to the default output of my card.

Now, there is a program that I need to never change (pulseeffects, which I need to always be in the output of "PulseEffe ...

Many of you might not have understood what I'm asking (sorry for being so poor with my questioning skills), so let me explain with help of an example.

Suppose I'm in my ~/desktop/assignments/practicals/words/ directory and I want to save a word (.odt) file here. As you can see in below screenshot, I'm able to access my ctrl + L shortcut in nautilus file manager to access text location of my directory so I ...

What clutter is left behind after uninstalling language packages?

I unistalled a lot of language packages I would never use ( like e.g. russian, thai, arabic, chinese etc. ). When I was searching for a file I came across /usr/share/X11/locale and it still had folders and files about languages I uninstalled. So I wondered, where else are folders and files left behind regarding all these languages. I don't use Linux-based systems very long, so don't know very well w ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
