I have a machine running ubuntu desktop 20.04 and looking at the fs parameters could not believe the file-max value: 9223372036854775807 which is the largest 64 bit signed integer. I never touched this parameter and cannot say how i ended with this value. The only fs parameter I have in sysctl.conf is fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 1048576 The machine which is hosting several services for my personal use ...

Today I did a clean reinstall of my pc with W11 and after that I installed Ubuntu in dual boot. So far so good, both OSes are installed on my main SSD and both of them work.

However, I’ve got a second SSD for data, which worked completely fine under Windows 10 and still works completely fine under Windows 11, but someh ...

Ubuntu 21.10 Flickering Screen on Wake or Screen Resolution Change
tr flag

When I wake my computer, the login screen and DE looks like the graphics card is broken (it's not). the screen has flickering lines and blocks of the screen flickering off an on. The manual resolution to this is to change the toggle my refresh rate from 165 to 60 Hz. The flickering doesn't occur until I change my screen resolution or log out.

This occurs on Wayland and X11. See the below image.

How can I get a list of files that I modified/added in /etc and other paths outside of the home folder?
cn flag

Over the years, I've been making tweaks to my Ubuntu system, such as adding files to /etc, to customize it. I now want to do a fresh re-installation of Ubuntu, and I want to capture all of these changes I've made and re-create them (by hand if necessary) in the new system. Unfortunately, I haven't been keeping track so I can't remember what most of them are.

I have finally fulfilled my dream of dual boot Ubuntu / Windows. Everything is also running well with both respectively. Mainly I use it for the university, whose most important data I synchronize with each other via Onedrive and Dropbox. Now I'm thinking about what would be a useful way to exchange data between both systems. With Ubuntu, you can access the data on Windows (even if you have to click thr ...

I have a system with Windows and Linux installed, and Windows is installed on a driver with an NTFS partition. I want to make sure that I don't accidentally write to this partition, so I want it always mounted as read-only.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
