Unable to change partitions on my disks
cn flag

I'm having trouble with disks on my machine. I'm unable to boot and currently trying to clean install Ubuntu. When I use Gparted with bootable usb disk, I can remove all partitions on my disk and when I hit apply button it says job is done but as soon as the success message disappears, it shows all the old partitions as they were before.

Boot error IO_PAGE_FAULT on ASUS motherboard with Thunderbolt 4
gy flag

I recently configured my new PC with Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS. The PC has an ASUS ProArt B550-Creator motherboard with an AMD 5700G CPU. I selected this motherboard because it features 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports. The boot process takes a very long time (nearly 2 minutes!) and I noticed several error messages in the boot log that may have to do with this:

Save instead of Save as a copy in Evince Reader
us flag

I am currently using Evince Document Viewer Version 3.36.10 on Ubuntu 20.04. When I try to save an annotated pdf, it shows only the Save a copy option. How do I make it overwrite the current file? I have read a few similar questions on this platform but couldn't find any answers. So, is there any way to do it?

dpgk --configure -a hangs setting up base-files , apparently in systemd-tty-ask-password-agent
vn flag

dpkg --configure -a is hanging when setting up base-files. From diagnosis so far, it appears dpkg --configure -a runs /var/lib/dpkg/info/base-files.postinst, which runs deb-systemd-invoke start motd-news.timer, which executes systemd-tty-ask-password-agent --watch, which waits forever (without asking for a password on the terminal). I've recently installed Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 LTS on my Dell Vostro 3590 which was shipped with Ubuntu GNOME. I've noticed that when the machine is running on battery, it does not sleep after 15 minutes which is my current settings. What could be the reason?

systemd-inhibit --list --mode=block does show one item.

Newly installed hirsute = 21.04. Installed out of the package, created my own personal account, the default .bashrc is present in my homedir and to make sure there is a .bash_aliases too. Both mention alias ll='ls -alF' still this alias is not available after logon. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
