Can no longer access scanner on Brother HL-L3290CDW scanner-printer-copier
id flag

My Brother "all in one" scanner-printer-copier was working fine for months with ubuntu 20.04 via USB cable. I can still use the laser printer, but the first time I try to start a scan, it makes scanner noises for a few seconds and then the scanner program (xsane, gscan2pdf, or simplescan) says

sane_start: Invalid argument

On second and succeeding attempts I get

'brother4:bus2;dev1':invalid argument.

JBL Quantum 400 Headset Mic Issue
in flag

I've just bought a brand new JBL Quantum 400 Headset USB and plugged it on my Ubuntu20 machine. The issue is that the "JBL Quantum 400"'s Microphone is not showing in the Audio Settings nor the Pulse Audio. The JBL Quantum 400 is shown as a headphone, not a headset. I've tested it on a Mac machine and it works normally.

Just want to make the mic works.

How to move tang from port 80
mx flag

I set up tang on an Ubuntu 20.04 server and it works fine. But I would like to move tang off port 80 because I don't want to move Apache. This page has the RHEL commands for changing tang's port assignment for SELinux, but is there an Ubuntu/AppArmor equivalent to this command:

Fresh install (20.04) on NUC10 but no HDMI audio, only 'dummy output'
jp flag

Problem

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 (as well as LinuxMint 20.2 Cinnamon and Elementary Os 6) Intel NUC10I7FNHN, I do not have the option to select the HDMI sound output in the sound settings, only dummy as sound output.

The system is dual boot - from Windows I am able to play sound over HDMI, which ruled out issues with the different hardware components (TV, HDMI cable and port).

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
