Ubuntu crashes on boot-up (Raspberry Pi 4)

When I fire up my Pi, the LED lights look normal until the green LED starts blinking regularly non-stop approximately 40 seconds after I turn it on. I read this post and none of the flash codes matches my Pi.

I don't have an SD card and boot my Pi using an external portable HDD. It's running Ubuntu 20.04 on a headless setup. Prior to this happening, I wasn't able to SSH into my Pi so I pulled the plug on  ...

Dell Vostro 3500 with modern suspend S0 - fan is running, battery drain, overheating - how to disable and get back to S3 suspend?
kr flag

I recently moved to a new laptop DELL Vostro 3500 and got stuck with the suspend. When trying to suspend in Ubuntu as usual, it looks like system went to suspend mode, but cpu fan runs even faster. This S0 suspend is unusable as the laptop overheats quickly in a bag and the battery is drained fast.

The last 24 hours I spent with searching and it must have to do with the "modern suspend", or the " ...

GParted and Disks utility make USB drive to disconnect and fail to recognize it
ng flag

I just wanted to format my usb drive, and followed an advice to use default "Disks" utility . But it failed and now whenever I try to launch GParted or Disks with USB drive inserted, they just hang for some time and then USB stick become disconnected and utility reports it can't find corresponding drive: enter image description here

Moreover, it gets disconnected from system completely, so even lsblk output doesn't list it:

Why is my Ubuntu VM not installing updates
us flag

There are are old CVEs which Ubuntu has a fix for.

For example : https://ubuntu.com/security/cve-2019-18276

I currently have Bash version 4.4.20.

If I run apt list --upgradable, I don't see Bash in the list of upgradable packages.

  1. Why Bash doesn't show up on the list ? Is it part of other packages ?
  2. I have multiple Repos on my sources.list. Does Ubuntu check all of them ?

Thank You

Can we use WUBI or something like it to install Ubuntu in 2021 without bricking our Windows install?

I would like to install Ubuntu using WUBI or something similar (from inside Windows). The general consensus seems to be that WUBI might be dangerous(?) but nobody seems to be sure. Assuming it can be done, does anyone know if this is hard on an SSD? How about repeated OS i ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
