Windows has clobbered my Ubuntu Data Disk
mx flag

My first nvme disk allows dual booting of Ubuntu 20.04 and Windows 10 and that is functioning fine. My second disk is a 1TB SSD drive and is normally a single 1TB partition (I am pretty sure it was ext4) and it is about 66% full of data and has no need for booting. Ubuntu now reports the second disk as having just one 16MB partition with the remainder of the disk being free space. The 16MB partition  ...

I would like to know is it possible to login into MySQL or PHPMyadmin with the same login mechanism like SSH key login?

The mechanism behind SSH key login was digital signature with challenge and respond. Is it possible to just put public key into MySQL/Phpmyadmin just like SSH so that the authentication can rely on public key authentication and cryptography randomness instead of relying on probl ...

On one of my machines, I had been on 20.04 for a while and decided to upgrade to 21.04 just earlier. Everything went fine except for some weird problems with the UI and redraw issues. Icons appear correctly sometimes and just red squares the other times. Certain sections do not appear until I hover on them. I just installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my new ASUS Zenbook 13 OLED UM325S.

Keyboard is not working after a cold boot. Keyboard will start working on the next boot, if the device is rebooted at Cryptsetup stage or later. Cryptsetup is affected as well, so encrypted installations are impossible to enter without an external keyboard.

Better OLED resolution and configuration with XPS 15
cn flag

The native OLED resolution 3456 x 2160 even with 200% scale is too small for me, I have the XPS 9510 with Ubuntu 21.04, Wayland and Kernel 5.13, the ideal resolution for my eyes is 1280 x 800, I have to options:

  1. 2560 x 1600 with 200% scale: It looks sharper to me

  2. 1280 x 800: A little bit blurry, but not much (maybe I am too tired already)

Which option would be better for: low CPU usage, better battery ...

assign ip to ubuntu 20.04 during installation (packer/cloud-init context)

I am trying to provision Ubuntu 20.04 through packer and I am trying to use packer's http server to provide the cloud-init configuration. On Ubuntu 18.04 I could do that by preseeding the ip using d-i (debian-installer), which in the mean time has become obsolete, it seems, but I don't know how I can do the same with Ubuntu 20. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
