No sound via HDMI on Ubuntu 21.04
cn flag

I've installed Ubuntu 21.04. I've followed a few AskUbuntu guides to no avail. My monitor is connected with an HDMI via an AMD RX 580 (Ellesmere) video card.

I do not have any proprietary drivers installed. As it so happens, official amdgpu-install drivers or amdgpu-pro drivers aren't supported in 21.04. In Ubuntu Software as well I see no drivers for my video card.

Using MergerFS with disks that are already RAID?
th flag

Recently I decided to update my home server and to add more storage. Previously I had 2 drives set up with MDADM to be RAID1, and that RAID was mounted to my share folder for samba. Now that I'm adding two more drives, I created another RAID with those two, but I don't think I'm able to mount two RAIDs to one singular folder for easy sharing without something like MergerFS to create one logical storage  ...

Compiling ARMv7A (AArch32) code on an ARMv8A (AArch64) machine?

I've read in many places that ARMv8A supports backwards compatible ARMv7A code (the former is now called AArch64 and the later is now called AArch32).

I'm running an ARMv8A machine (on the Raspberry Pi 4B, with the BCM2835 SoC), but I would like to write and debug GNU Assembly code written in ARMv7A language. How do I compile .S files written in ARMv7A and run it on my machine?

I had to re-download the Brackets text editor amongst a few other apps but when I open it up the text in the menu, buttons in the app text in the app itself are really small, I think there's a command line way of doing it.

This is my first question here, even if I've been lurking here for a long time.

I installed Ubuntu 21.04 next to windows 10 with hopes that a newer kernel would have better support for my problem. This was not the case.

  • I've disabled fastboot on windows 10 (in "power options").
  • I enabled the "Propietary drivers for devices (restricted)" sources when I installed.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
