Enable "use CUDA" for OpenCV
cn flag

In Ubuntu 18.04 (Jetson Nano) I have OpenCV 4.1.1 and CUDA 10.2.89.

However, the command below, in Python, returns 0:

cv2.cuda.getCudaEnabledDeviceCount()

which means OpenCV is not using CUDA.

What should I do to enable "use CUDA" in Jetson Nano?

I own the new Thinkpad P14s AMD 2nd gen with Ubuntu 21.04 and full disk encryption. It almost works out of the box except for Wi-Fi (that can be fixed with this driver) and suspension.

Actually, I'm not totally sure where the problem is: if I try to suspend, all keyboard lights switch off, except for the power button that stays on. When I try to resume from suspension, keyboard lights switch on but the  ...

Firefox: How to reduce height of bars
in flag

I am running Firefox 90.0 on Ubuntu Mate 18.04 32-bit. It seems that Firefox'es tabs and menu bar are optimized for smartphones as they are twice as high as the bars of all other programs. My netbook has a small screen and so I'd like to reduce them to ordinary size. How/is that possible?

Intermittent rapid power cycling problem in Ubuntu MATE

Good evening,

A few months ago, I installed Ubuntu MATE onto an Acer Aspire (I don't quite recall the specific model name). However, around 6 weeks ago, after an Ubuntu update I began to have a weird bug, namely that when my laptop is plugged in on the charger it constantly cycles between charging and discharging states. The cycle is extremely quick, so the net effect is that it is not like it is ...

Wine: Do folder-to-drive-letter association settings have the effect of a sandbox?

In Wine it is possible to associate certain folders of the Linux tree with drive letters that Wine provides to the Windows programs. Now if I only have drive letter C for the /home/myusername/.wine/drive_c and no other associations, will this prevent Windows apps from accessing other folders outside of this one? I'd like to know this so that I can assess the risk of Win Malware messing with my files  ...

I changed some files and cannot use GUI in ubuntu 20.04

I was trying to restore previous versions of the files and this is what I did from root: cp -r /snap/gnome-3-34-1804/66/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu /usr/lib

From that moment I cannot use the GUI. I can only login to the computer through the terminal (for example tty2). Please is there any way to repair the GUI?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
