us flag

I'm running Linux Debian v5.4.109-26094-g381754fbb430 on my Chromebook. Everything has been working until now.

On Sunday, I logged into VSC on another device using my account, then when I return to my personal PC, it starts acting up. I try signing into my GitHub account so I can have access to Git and stuff, but no avail.

The same error pops up every single time:

Why do some shell extensions always report they need an update even if they don't?

I see some strange behaviour here. I'm running Ubuntu 21.04 and Gnome-shell on a number of computers, and it works very well indeed. BUT there seems to be a small glitch with a couple of the extensions, namely Autohide Battery and Impatience. When I go to extensions.gnome.org and select Installed Extensions, these two extensions always display a green Update button, even shortly after they have have b ...

Running .sh file with one button click
fr flag

I am a linux beginner and I am trying to automate a small task on my computer. In order to connect to my vpn, I have to open my terminal and type nordvpn connect
I have created a simple .sh script that does this for me.

#!/bin/bash
nordvpn connect

The problem is that to run this file I have to open my terminal and write `./vpn.sh
Is there a way I can automate this to be done with a single click?

Trouble removing NVIDIA drivers
in flag

I've recently installed graphic drivers for an nvidia geforce RTX 2070. After that, Ubuntu (version 21.04) wouldn't boot anymore. (Lots of people seem to have this issue, see e.g. [1], [2], [3].) I've installed the driver via the built-in app (forgot the name and can't look since I can't boot, I think "Something & Packages"). I've then managed to remove the drivers by running some variant of ...

I need gcc-mingw-w64 version 9.3.0 for a project to compile correctly. I am running hirsute. For this release the gcc-mingw-w64 version is 10.0 something. I already added archive.ubuntu.org focal to my sources.list. But when I run sudo apt update and then sudo apt install gcc-mingw-w64=9.3.0-7ubuntu1+22~exp1ubuntu4 -s the dependant packages are still installed from the hirsute repo:

This may be a duplicate of Livepatch - Does This Even Do Anything? I have livepatch supposedly running on two machines, one with 18.04.5 LTS 4.15.0-147-generic and one with 20.04.2 LTS 5.8.0-55-generic. I'm not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be, and on top of that i now switched to ubunutu to get some wanky formatting results. Go Back To Windows 10 from Ubuntu 20.04

I attempted to download Ubuntu for dual boot, never used Linux before, I picked "something else" during the installation process and picked a separate 300GB partition, I'm not sure whether this is an single-boot or dual-boot. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
