“Please run ‘e2fsck -f /dev/nvme0n1p7’ first” when trying to resize partition using GParted
cn flag

I’m running GParted from a live usb. When GParted tries to execute resize2fs -p /dev/nvme0n1p7 It throws an error and says “Please run ‘e2fsck -f /dev/nvme0n1p7’ first”.

I have tried running the above command in terminal and following it with resize2fs -p /dev/nvme0n1p7 but get the same error. I’ve also tried rebooting as well as running chkdsk /f on windows.

Not sure what else to try. An ...

What happened to /etc/network/interfaces?
cn flag

I installed updates to 20.04 and all my interfaces.d scripts are gone, and /etc/network/interfaces is also gone. Even if I recreate it NetworkManager doesn't stop controlling the interfaces. Did /etc/network/interfaces get deprecated or something?

Please...please...don't tell me I'm forced to use NetworkManager because it's a real dogpile for anything but an auto wifi interface.

How to remove last 4 seconds of MP3 file?
cn flag

I have a set of MP3 files that I would like to remove the last 4 seconds. I know that if I know the time duration of each file I can do:

ffmpeg -t ${1} -i inputfilename -acodec copy -vcodec copy outputfilename

Where $1 is the duration of the file minus the 4 seconds.

I'd really like something that would just chop the last 4 seconds off regardless of the length of the file. A "stop 4 seconds before th ...

Why doesn't the --quiet flag work when running the adduser command?

So after a few years of this annoying me, I figured it was time to crowd-source.

Why doesn't the --quiet or -q flag work when running adduser commands on Ubuntu? According to the manual and all documentation I could find, it should work, but it doesn't.

The only time this flag should be ignored is if you also have the --debug flag too, which I don't.

So, why doesn't it work? I have tried rearranging t ...

Disk full but I can't find the 85% of the files in Ubuntu server 20.04

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
