Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 for ubuntu-based OS like Lubuntu, Bodhi Linux
br flag

I find that Netflix flickers with the video driver that comes with the Lubuntu 20.04.2 LTS installation. Same thing with Bodhi Linux. The streaming quality is not as good as when using the driver that comes with Windows 10. This is unfortunate and one of the things preventing me from leaving Windows.

There seems to be no proprietary driver. Any suggestions? My internet connection is fine in all s ...

Replacement for Compiz Config Settings Manager in Ubuntu 20.04?
au flag

I recently migrated from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 20.04 and one of the things I am missing is the Compiz Config Settings Manager. I used the "window grid" functionality of this application very much. It would allow me to quickly move a window to a quadrant (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right) or a half (top-half, bottom-half, right-half, left-half) using a keyboard shortcut like Ctrl+NumPad (1 ...

Cursor stuck on title bar with double monitor
br flag

I just bought a second monitor to use with my laptop, a vertical one. Aside from the difference in dpi, which I can live with (not easily fixed unless i blur the screen with xrandr scaling), my cursor gets stuck on the titlebar when trying to go from one screen to another. If the cursor passes the title bar, I can see its tail on the other screen but i have to go down a bit to go through. It's like a li ...

I am new to ubuntu. I try to learn ubuntu, now I have a problem with backup. I try to make a recovery system image for ubuntu and I carry it on my Pendrive. When my computer goes wrong I restore the system image. That is my mind mapping. This process is similar to the windows recovery system image. I think you consider my question.

Network bonding: slave NICs still get DHCP

I'm setting up bonding of two 1 GB Ethernet NICs on Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS in mode 0 (balanced-rr).

The bond is working in that it comes up at the assigned IP address and I can SSH into it at this address. However, each of the bonded slave NICs still get a DHCP address assigned.

How can I set this up so only the bond has an IP address?

Here's how I set it up:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
