How to backup a bare-metal Ubuntu server with MySQL running 24/7 with zero downtime?
ru flag

I've been researching this for a long time but I cannot find a satisfying solution. People tend to:

  1. Backup Linux systems with rsync - which is good if you want to backup a lot of standalone files but not if you want to backup and eventually restore and entire bare-metal server. Additionally, my MySQL databases have 100GB+ in size and are open 24/7 so there isn't any consistent state other than a point-in ...

Kubuntu installation - Failed to create a file system

I tried installing Kubuntu using the manual partition option. When I get to the point where the installer tries to create the new partition, I get the following error:

I don't think it is a hard disk failure because I can create a new partition using Windows. The Windows is installed on a SS ...

Ubuntu 20.04 fails to boot from USB on raspberry pi 4

As per the instructions on USB Boot for Rpi-4 from the official website, I updated bootloader to allow USB boot.

Flashed my USB drive with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Server and connected to Raspberry Pi 4, but fails to boot.

Weird enough, both Ubuntu Desktop & Server(21.04) worked out of box using USB boot.

What additional steps should I follow, to allow USB boot?

GRUB Menu not visible after firmware update on Windows10
jp flag

A few days back, Windows prompted a firmware update, and after the update, my laptop directly boots into Windows10, and GRUB Menu has gone. To fix this, I changed the boot order in BIOS to Ubuntu first and second Windows. It worked; GRUB Menu appeared like normal. But after this change, Windows doesn't shut down; it goes to sleep instead. I tried various troubleshooting methods to fix this shutdown, but ...

Display is lost when turned off (standby), desktop is automatically adjusted randomly

I have two displays connected via HDMI and whenever I turn one off (power button/standby), the system thinks that the monitor was disconnected entirely and automatically reconfigures the desktop, moves all open programs to the active display and adjusts the background accordingly. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
