Evince can not open links in snap Firefox
va flag

When I click on a link in a PDF document in Evince, it does not work. Instead, I only see cursor turning into a spinner and a message appearing in the terminal:

env: ‘/snap/bin/firefox’: Permission denied

The closest thing I have found is the following bug report for evince itself https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evince/-/issues/1090

which suggests the problem is in the AppArmor profiles that d ...

Disable IP Routes on Boot
sa flag

I'm running KVM on bare metal Ubuntu 20.04, and in order to get guest to host networking functional, I added a macvlan interface. I added a script under /etc/networkd-dispatcher/routable.d/10-macvlan-interfaces.sh to create the macvlan interface on boot up, which seems to work.

#! /bin/bash

Now the solution to that problem is to make sure that webstorm is ran with the same setting ...

Why my 2nd monitor not working in Ubuntu Xorg
us flag

I have 2 monitors connected to my laptop running Ubuntu 21.10. One monitor connected via hdmi and the other via a DisplayLink USB to HDMI adapter. When in Wayland, both work fine, but in Xorg, the monitor connected via the USB adapter does not work. It is not a big of a deal since I can do my work just fine in Wayland, but I am curious why would it not work in Xorg.

I have checked if there are any drivers ...

show "keyword" (exif metadata) file tag in file manager
us flag

With the file keywords (and other metadata tags), one can manage (filter, search...) files efficiently.

While in the Windows Explorer, this column ("keywords") can easily be displayed, there seems to be NO WAY to do this in LINUX/Ubuntu, be it with Nemo, Nautilus, Dolphin or any other (visual) file manager.

Searching the net, it seems that people are only using the exif metadata tags for music/MP3 a ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
